MSI Launches the World's Fastest Overclocked GeForce 280 GTX Video Card

Taiwan-based Micro-Star International (MSI) presented today N280GTX OC HydroGen, the company's fastest clocked, water cooled GeForce 280 GTX card. The card is said to run the world's highest core clock settings at 700MHz, a boost of 17% over the default 280 GTX core speed. That's achieved by the full cover water block of course. Its micro-channel design allows for that speed to be achieved, while maintaining working temps of under 40'C. Another advantage of this water block is its single slot design, allowing for easier multiple video card installation. No price tag or retail availability were announced by the time of this post.

Its not hard to clock a card that high when you make water-cooling mandatory.

Companies LOVE to let everyone know that they have the "fastest, best, most innovative" products. Hell I would too, but at what cost to the consumer?

I can't be the only one that see's the yellow neon glow coming from the back of the card. With the fan it was 59C.
After seeing that photo I wouldn't touch that card.

To be honest, I am looking at the pic of the card with the fan on it and it was still glowing neon under the fan. I hardly think this pic is 100% the truth, but I would hope the full cover waterblock was offering some cooling to the VRM area.

EDIT: What I meant to say is that "No. It doesn't offer much cooling to the VRM area".

To be honest, you can't really see much with the fan but you can see some orange within the fan so it looks like it was cooler. With the removal of the fan, there is no ventilation of any kind. They simply inadvertently showed the rear of the card when they want to emphasize GPU temps and not VRM/etc temps. This is what they are advertising (via full waterblock that only cools the GPU).

a "single dual" slot design......
Thats a good one there..

dual core, core2duo, single dual slot, we all love duo and dual...

I cannot wait what we have in the near future...
core3duo, single triple slot...

you meant "doesn't exceed the already existing dual slot design of the card" ?

wow look at the temps with the liquid cooling, very low.

Damn everybody needs a liquid system, if you want to cool seriously your most warm components then usually are CPU and VGA.

Hope to get one me too.

Yup, I have a friend with the MSI GTX280 Vanilla and with it's stock cooling he gets 725mhz on air and it was seriously cheaper than this card.

MSI's target audience are 'enthusiasts' that are the sort of people that don't want to have to dick about choosing and the sourcing the right waterblock for their card(s). It comes pre-overclocked, and if they have a pre-built watercooled machine, they can just drain and then install with minimal of fuss.

Obviously it won't appeal to true enthusiasts that have experience with watercooling and overclocking because they (we) know the true value that can be had.
