AMD Product lineup For Q4 2008 Uncovered
There is a brief insight into what AMD has in store for the desktop CPU market till towards the end of this year. The good news however is that AMD's 45nm conquest flags off by the end of this year. Chile Hardware published yet another company slide from AMD. This one lists out AMD's desktop processors lined-up for release (both actual and on paper) by the end of this year.
To begin with, AMD will continue to make additions to the Athlon X2 energy-efficient dual-core processors. On October the 2nd, Athlon X2 5050e would be released in both tray and processor-in-[a]-box (PIB) stocks. This processor is rated at 45W and has a clock speed of 2.60 GHz, that's 13.0x 200 MHz. It is based on the Brisbane 65nm core. Later in November, this line would be expanded by the Athlon X2 3250e. This Brisbane-based part comes clocked at 1.50 GHz and a rated TDP of an incredibly low 22W. There's also a single-core part based on the Lima core, the Athlon 2650e, an energy efficient single core rated at 15W with a clock speed of 1.60 GHz. Moving on to K10 processors, AMD plans to release a Phenom X3 8850 triple-core processor on the same day it releases Athlon X2 5050e. The Phenom X3 8850 is to be clocked at 2.50 GHz. Later in December, AMD will release a Phenom X3 8850 Black Edition, which is a chip with the same specifications albeit unlocked FSB multiplier. As for quad-core, here's the news some of us have been waiting for, that is AMD will launch two models of the 45nm Deneb core-based Quad-Core Phenom processor. Their model names and numbers are kept under covers for now. There are two parts models clocked at 2.80 GHz and 3.00 GHz with rated TDPs at 125W. An observation is that these make the possibility of a 4+ GHz Deneb FX seem rather bleak. These are to be launched within December though it seems like a paper launch since the products are under embargo till January 8 next year. Last edited by btarunr; Sep 5, 2008 at 11:20 AM. |

3.00GHz is fast enough for me...
the new proc's should be pretty nice. What'll be even nicer would be some kick-ass mobo's to complement those cpu's, or at least a better selection. The choices for AMD are pretty limited at least for the higher end "spider" platforms.

...posting a smiley?
Another bit is that DDR3 for AMD could be a reality by early next year. |

The slide shows it's based on the current 65nm Toliman core. Does Toliman allow 26x ?

Why are they still on about the athlons. I mean i like AMD and i plan to stick with them because for me it's just easier and possible cheaper in the long run. But surely they could just focus on getting the Phenom out there?
No average user cares about what the CPU is - they don't even know what a CPU is! Just make it so it can the basic things fast and well and the market will be happy - Advertise AMD advertise!

AM2+ boards allow up to 25x, i remember reading about it somewhere that future procs would be able to go up to 25x. Looks like Deneb though... Toliman is based off the Agena core... bleh

Highest multiplier isn't a function of the board/platform, but of the processor. For example, Windsor had 16.0x max.

It does need to be enabled by the BIOS though, my board certainly is.

Sure, but look that's Deneb (45nm). My question was if Toliman 65nm supported 26x.
26 x 200 = 5.20 GHz (impossible). |

Right, lol. That's what I was saying. ixnay on the Toliman/Agena, but Deneb should be a winner.

"Phenom X3 8850 Black Edition" - finally what I was waiting for. If they bring this under $150 then that will be awesome.

I'm still a bit aware of performance problems from the first line of Phenoms. Does anyone know anything about the Denebs recieving HyperTransport 3.1? If so, how compatible is it?

HT is backwards compatabile both ways, an HT 3.1 will run with HT 1.0 vice verse. So a Phenom Deneb can run with a 754 if they wanted to make a deneb 754 single core chip. And a clawhammer would run on an AM3 board if they had DDR slots on it

I dont think it will support HT 3.1, at least according the roadmap for 09 published earlier. All the CPUs on that roadmap are HT 3.0 unless thats a mistake.

If I remember right, Fusion will support HT 3.1, and all the current AM2+ mobo capable of HT 3.1

Pretty neat and the 3.0Ghz on a phenom is pretty awesome. 4.0Ghz on a FX shouldnt be out of the question, but Im still leary of them pulling it off. Hell, Im happy to see a phenom come standard at 3.0ghz. Hopefully this can compete with some Intel chips on ocing.

The 8850 should be in the 130s. But I think it's a total waste of a not having another core when the price differences are rather minuscule.
