System Specs

We meant fill out your System Specs so they appear under your avatar, like mine does. Go to your User CP (its on the dark grey bar at the top of this page, click on it and on your left is an option to fill out your system specs). It's a start though.

Are those the Catalyst 8.8's (I suck at actual driver versions, packages im fine with though :P )?? And are you using Vista, XP or Linux?

Also, what happens when you plug both cards in? Details please

sweet specs filled out !!

when ever i plugged both cards in, if i start ANY game the pc automatically locks up, or freezes up to a wierd color in the screen, weather it would be wierd grey lines or just black. If i put one card in it works good, but after 30mins again i sometimes get lock-up, ive only just today put in a new q9400 intel chip, ive updated bios and its werks now, u may have read it on another post i did, i never really tested games untill now..

PLUS, i am aware that dual gpu drivers have been out, but what about when you "CF 2 3870x2 cards", so you have quad gpu, is that a different ball game all together or can i use the same drivers? either way my pc hates CF...im not sure if the new bios update is giving grief, id hate to go back there !!

its the same drivers, aslong as crossfire is enabled. Could either be:

A. Your PSU (most likely) isnt giving your system enough juice to run a quad + your 2 cards.

B. Bad card(s). One could be on its way out, causing the luck ups both in single and dual card use.

C. The drivers could be fubar. Boot into safe mode, remove all video card drivers using a driver cleaner (like CCleaner) then re-install the latest drivers.

D. Overheating. Make sure both cards have sufficient airflow, and that neither are overheating during use - donwload TPU's own GPU-Z and monitor the temps, or monitor it through the catalyst thingy.

Hope these help!

Nope your specs didnt work

I'd say it's a power issue (yes I realise you have a 1.2kw PSU). Its about the rails. How many 12v rails does your PSU have?? If possbile, run your mobo and 2 cards off seperate rails. ie. Mobo on 12v1, card1 on 12v2 and card2 on 12v3.

Also, try both cards individually and see if they both work fine.

Like I said, not your PSU wattage, but the rails. Two very different things. How many 12v rails does your PSU have??

Why such a high wattage PSU? a 700W Corsair would have been more than enough - do you really need over a killowatt of power?

how can i check that pal?

and for the other fella, i need this PSU "1200" because there other 750watt thermaltake wasnt quad gpu ready, there wasnt sufficient cords available to hook both cards up, plus it fail to power the bottom card, it just went cold after 20 mins under the hammer..
PLUS im not having an issue with power, the cards are just flying along nicely, way better when i have them or tryed to hook them up to the 750w, i can definatly see that.

Also, make sure you have your PCI-E slots set to give out 75W of power.

Look on the back of the PSU near where the cables plug in (if it's modular) or look for a cable chart in the manual/website.

Well there ya go lol. Vista (64 bit) ftw imo. Make sure your cards are hooked up to different rails anyway, don't wanna kill your PSU if/when you get Vista.

Yea get 64bit if you can. It'll let you upgrade to 4gb of RAM later which is becoming quite popular, probably the most future proof thing you'll get for your computer

And don't get Vista Basic, get Home Premium at least.

And DO NOT install it over the top of your XP via the upgrade option or whatever it is. Thats where many people's problems from Vista stemmed. Make sure it's on a fresh partition
