65% is pretty darn loud! This fan goes faster than it needs to. I'm idling at 35C!!
Going to turn it down a little...*65% = 4041rpm's! I'm speaking about my 4870.

Odd, on my Visiontek 44% was somewhere in the 4k range.

On a 4870? This fan is overkill, which is good. I'm at 50% and idling at 38C, FurMark under load is 55c after a few runs. This cooler works very well when the fan isn't at 16%

i'll be using my vf900 thats on my 3850 on my 4850 when i get it.I have modded my vf900 by putting a normal 80mm fan on it.I cut the middle bit out of the 80mm fan and glued it onto my vf900.Seems to work ok.
My 3850 runs at about 30c ish on windows.

Don't have a 4870 yet, that was on my 4850 during a 10 min stability test I did with Fur to see what temps were like.

Heh, I completely forgot about the overdrive profiles. Too bad I don't feel like putting the casing/fan back on the thing, plus that fan is loud as hell. For now I can deal with the thing taking up 3 slots in my rig.

Uh guys, the VF900CU still wont bring satisfactory temps... I'd expect the heatpipes to be saturated with heat. Well, thats what I think at least

Question: is it possible to stick an Accelero on such a card and check the idle temps only and compare them to a stock cooler @ stock speed, or does the card heat up badly on windows load that such a test is impossible without overheating the card (in case i'm wrong)?

36c idle with the 4870 stock cooler, plus it blows all the hot air out of my case... I'll stick with the stock cooler!

That's quite an improvement, dude, temp wise. How about the noise? Does it increase too much when gaming?

The 4870 cooler is much better than the 4850. I wish they would have put the same on them.

Regardless of that, you just proved my point beyond a shadow of a doubt and i thank you for it, dude! EDIT Another question: don't 2*120 mm fans fit, side by side, in that Accelero?

No problem. ![]() Those temps in the pics are with the card overclocked to 675/1050 and the 140mm fan. The passive temps were 50c idle and about 67c load. With the fan, it idled at the same speed (30c) as at stock speeds because obviously the clock is the same at 500Mhz. At 700Mhz, load jumped to about 40-41c. Either way, it runs very cool and very quiet. I believe 2 x 120mm fans do fit on it, in fact arctic cooling do a unit with 2 of them in it that attaches to it. I like this 140mm fan though, moves a lot of air at superbly quiet speeds. |

I believe it's by design, because the 4800 chips are very powerful. Most consumers aren't going to change the cooling on a video card, so all the more reason to slap on a cooling solution that *just* does the job, thereby eliminating the chance of a good overclock. Just my $0.02. |
