AMD shows theoretical HD4850X2 Performance

Probably ATi Radeon HD 4850 X2 will be launched at the end of the month or early October.

Current prices:
HD 4870 $275 avg. x 2 = $550 avg.
HD 4870X2 $555 avg. ($540-560)

HD 4850 $190 avg. x 2 = $380 avg.

When it's realeased it will most likely give a lesser cost benefit than buying two 4850's depending on performance vs. crossfire. Really though, we are only talking about a $20 difference. With nothing else new getting released before the hollidays, I would figure there aren't going to be any price drops.

Btw, you should read the fine print. The graph where it shows the 4850x2 beating the GTX280 at best by 1.34% is actually done using two 4850's in crossfire.

$230 yea right not in a month of sundays, its advertised at <$400 = $399

and if you look at the comparison between it and the gtx280 the performance gap is not as big as it would make you think, add on to that the power draw, crossfire headaches, not too mention drivers, and cost comparison, real life performance and only then can you make a true comparison.

it will be nice if amd can keep it at the right price, nothing else

You cant really go by only 4 benches (I dont count 3dmark). Thats why I like TPU reviews cus they use loads of games and you get a better idea of its capabilities. And the graph is incredibly misleading. (i know thats the idea of marketing, lol).

E.g HL2, the bar is shown to be 2.5 times bigger for ati than nvidia. But the performance is only 1.3 times better than nvidia.

And this isnt a rant at ATi, but I have to agree with mullered on the potential crossfire issues, and the heat/power problems which seem to be plagueing many 48xx cards atm.

It's not entirely misleading. However, they are only using AA enabled results. This is where we all know the 4800 series really shines, so the results are only biased, not so much misleading.

All this is, is a marketing release. Take it as nothing more. I'm changing the title since this isn't based on a real 4850x2. I hope everyone can remain civil in this thread.

Every company says that their card is best and show benchies in their favour, real life is a different story.

Isn't it a fact that HD4850 in Crossfire outperformed GTX280? If there is problem, It only about drivers problem, this is always the problem for SLI and Crossfire, new drivers will fix things.

I don't think this graph is unbelievable It's believable, It isn't outperform GTX280 too far anyway only ~1.4x

Plus this will be 1GBx2 version, that makes it even more believable.

The topic name is stupid. "AMD shows theoretical..." Everyone is smart enough to know what is this about. Every company has their own way of advertise their products, AMD itself didn't say this is a theoretical. This is their advertise, It's up to you to believe it's or not.
It's a true sarcasm to put "theoretical" into the topic. Rather, it should only be this way "AMD shows HD4850X2 Performance". And then It's up to the reader to decide.

the X2 cards usually perform better than 2X 4850 etc.., as long as driver support for 4XXX cards gets better these cards will own, hell I'll get oone even!

I think AMD has got the cards on the table now, but what we really need is some serious price cuts. They are still far too expensive at the moment which can be expected but I was hoping by now the price would have moved a bit!

It definately says "performance estimate based on data 2 ATI HD 4850tm in CrossfireXtm" expect better performance out of the 4850x2 than what is shown here.

Give me some independent reviews please. I don't place much stock in marketing blurbs (although I'm sure it will be a very good card).
