Looks to be a strong combo, I don't know the AMD side of things very well..but I bet it'll do just fine for gaming, if not kickass!
What's your goal with this build? |

Seems to be a pretty strong Amd/Ati combo.

my girlfriend wants to build her first computer, she plays the sims, does photoshop and some 3d editing crap, i just wanted something that was impressive but not to complicated, this is the first time she's ever built a computer and i'm only going to watch and point at things, she's on her own from opening the box to setting up the os.
this is kind of a relationship builder for me and her, she's been kinda passionless and she wants something of a hobby and she seems interested so i wanted to make this a good experience for her. that's why i posted, i wasn't thinking before but now that i am i'm worried with the 790 boards and the new phenom's out in a couple months, i hope this was the right move that's all. |

you made a good choice.
Now that i've done the OP's request in the title, i'll go read his actual post.... looks good for an AMD rig.

Pretty solid build bro. I don't think you messed up at all. The 9950 Phenoms seem to have improved stability at higher clocks compared to the 9850's. Some people have been able to get 3.0GHz at stock voltages, just upping the multi. Definately a great build. Read up on this thread, all you need to know about a phenom, everrrrrr!!!
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=58746 It's such a good thread, that even "mussels" who is a intel guy is in there reading around. He also rubs in our face that he can do 3.6 Ghz without breaking a swear on air, but hey its all good hehe

My only thing I would double check, is the DS4 rated for a 140W cpu?

Yeah i look around in there, i'm not brand dependant its all about value for my ever decreasing funds. As soon as AMD becomes better value for $, i'll swap right back over.

Just found it on GB's site. It's 140W ready. You're good to go. Pretty nice build, too.

i'm using a 750 watt coolermaster with quad rails and plenty off ams, i believe it's quad sli capable
i'm also using an antec 900, people say the 4870 fits fine, it always worked well for me for it's superior cooling, and it's got a window, the girl will love it. |

.....a bit tired and not thinking straight. Yes the kits come with an AMD cross bar to allow it to clamp onto the AMD retainer. I was blathering about Intel!

Yeah, you made a fine choice. Very strong AMD system. I would have gone Intel, but still, not bad at all, the gaming performance will be fine.

1- go for 790fx not gx , cuz it is better in crossfire with dual 16x2.0
2- if you need it now take the phenom 9950 but if you can wait maybe a month you can take new phenom with 3.0ghz and 6m l3 cash 3- about the card i like the sippher 4870 with 1g ddr5 you can see it newegg at last i like you amd girls signature , cool |

I think most of your stuff looks good. However, I do think you could have made a better (and cheaper) choice with the RAM.
