PNY 8800GT 256mb Power Requirements

As the title says, I want to know the power requirements for the following GFX card:
PNY GeForce 8800 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Im thinking of putting it into this spare rig i have which has an Antec Earthwatts 430W power supply and want to know if this'll run fine. I currently run a 2900pro (256bit) card in the now on that psu and its fine..

2900pro eats more power than a 8800GT 256mb so yes. 8800GT minimum requirements are a 400W PSU with a 12v current rating of a combined 26A. The earthwatt psu's are quality, I don't think you should have any trouble.

+1 on erockers post....Earthwatts PSUs are fine and your 430watt version is stable and has all the power needed....I'd even feel OK running a 512mb 8800GT on one to be honest!

Side note: 256mb 8800GT performance isn't all that good when you look at the 512mb version, sorry to say I'd look into stopping your order and going for the 512mb version

Well, see here. The 8800GT 512 consumes 171W under load, so the 256 will draw around that. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/P...D_4850/21.html

Yeah, with the monitor you use, that extra 256mb of vram can come in very handy!

The question is, why isn't the 2900Pro good enough??? I'm pretty sure it will beat a 256MB 8800GT when the res goes up due to its 512MB vRAM (or even 1GB!)..and seeing as this is only a second rig...it makes little sense to spend money on something that in fact is probably worse!

the 2900pro (256mbit version not the 512mbit bus version) is fine... but, Im giving it to my brother... and becuase of this I was going to use an old 7300GT... then I realised that I wanted a bit of grunt to be able to play COD4 multiplayer on it when mates come round... so £40 for a 8800GT is not all that bad... and it should be pretty similar to the 2900pro

At that price point, you may be better off with a 9600GT and overclocking it a bit. I'm not sure what they run in the UK though.

yeah I thought that too... but the cheapest 9600GT is £68 and this card is £45... (im sure that some people could find cheaper elsewhere, but i have a long running account with overclockers and only use them as they have never let me down)
just wanted an el cheapo to use in my second rig, and even though its a somewhat stunted 8800series card, its still pretty decent for a second rig that only friends use

Ive already ordered it, and its arriving on saterday delivery as im not here during the week.
Main thing holding me back was the psu i have in that rig.

i just got the 512 mb version of the same card. its nice. even looks good. fan is quiet at 50% and under. stock cooling puts it at 54c avg at idle at that speed. its a nice card. overclocked fairly well, too.

i don't think pny are selling the 256mb version in the states. could be wrong. but the 512mb version for $110 is a damn steal so why would they bother with the 256, i guess.

Both my 512MB 8800GTs (Both XFX Alpha Dog XXX editions) used to idle at 40 - 45'C with the fan on 50%, but would get to 62 - 72'C while gaming with the fan at 80% and it sounded like Ba hairdryer!!! lol
