Step down to an e8500 or even an e3110 Xeon model of the e8400 which handles more heat.
E8600 isn't worth the price tag...

Mainboard is overkill if you don't plan on clocking like a complete nut!

That point on looks good, what do you plan to do with it?
I would venture a GTX260 or HD4870 personally.

yea, in fact, studies have found that for some reason the e8500 performs slightly better than the e8600 on games, even at lower clock speeds...

I would surely go with 4gb of ram these days if you're going 64bit...

4gb is really starting to show in 64bit, and will show more and more in the nearing days.

I really need 3GB+ because vista will idle at 1GB and the GFX will take some of the memory and probably I'll be using photoshop for a while and the rest is left for games.

Are you going to have a second large drive for storage? 150GB can go pretty quick, especially with VIsta.

Maybe, it depends. I bought one first then if its not enough I buy an extra one so I don't accidently waste my money.

You could skip on the sound card unless you really want it or have reason for needing it... I have no problems with onboard sound myself, but I don't have high quality speakers or high quality headphones either.

it depends, some mobos have crappy onboard and some people just like the sound cards better. My only recomendation would be to get a PCI-e X-Fi Titanium Pro card instead, it costs the same as the one u want but it works better in Vista from what i've read and it has something the Xtreme Gamer Fatality Pro doesnt have: 2x 5pin front panel connectors for mic and headphones. Other than those cards are basically the same, both have 64MB of X-RAM and so on. Plus i figure a PCI-e card would be more futureproof. I actually have one and it works great.
