That error only relates to three issues.

1) A administrative right issue with read write registration, usually caused by a improperly registered file, and or during a network read or write (sometimes VIA .net) the network resource being unavailble within the specified timeout period.

2) Corruption of the PFN list.

3) A incompatable or corrupt file for the windows operating system, and or a faulty driver file.

So, is it running from a network drive, or a shared resource? If so try it locally.
Try to uninstall and reinstall and or check the installers MD5 to be sure it has not been corrupted.
Make sure you have the appropriate rights when installing it.
Lastly start a dump tool, try it again and see if the fault lies with a existing driver. If the area that the expected data was supposed to be at was not allowed to be read, it is possible a driver overwrote the area, ignoring the memory allocation it was given.

I have personally seen two of the instances above occur. One was a network timeout issue as it was a .net program being run on a busy network, and the other was with Zebara printer drivers that are not XP signed and cause this issue randomly with any machine they are instaled on.

K I ran chkdsk, wish me luck! If not, I think the problem could be with these new ATI drivers...

Have you disabled any background processes/apps? Perhaps antivirus or something that scans memory?

Heh. It's probably due to the ATi drivers. Go back to the old ones, and see if that works.

Meh, I might go back to 8.5... But I just installed 8.10! 8.10 in Crysis is AMAZING!

I just tried compatibility mode. Windows 95 / 98 failed hard. 2000 worked just as well as XP. No dice.

Do other steam games work?

I would exit steam, delete clientregistry.blob and steam.dll (or copy them, make a backup), restart steam. It will update and you will need to log back on. See if it helps.

The results looked good at first, but it still has the same problem. That did not work... The deleting the DLL and other file.

The game crashes after I play a little while. At maybe about 5 - 20 minutes of play, I get that error.
