Lapping

Hello all,

Not sure where a thread like this belongs, so i guess I'll ask here. Does anybody have any advice or comments to a noob on how to go about lapping my processor? It lowers the temps right? Does it affect it in other ways as well?

Thanks

Well it'll lower temps because your surface will be nice and flat and provide more contact to the HSF. Also, if one of your core temp is higher than the other than lapping should help with that too.

If you are going to lap your CPU, you should lap the HSF too. If you're experimenting, you probably don't want to do it to an HSF with heatpipes as you can go through the surface exposing the inside.

the big gains only come from CPU's or heatsinks that arent flat.

considering you're only at 2.1GHz... why are you doing this? your freezer will let you OC a lot higher than 2.1, before running into any temperature problems.
