A little too late, as we taking steps towards DDR3. Yes DDr2 will be around for another year or so, till at least the stock is depleted of DDR2 memory. But it is not wise for memory makers to spend money to make more of old memory.

Also means the potential is there for 16gb of ddr2 memory.... not sure how useful that would be at this point.

Let's just hope it's below 70 USD. And I won't be buying DDR3 until the prices go down to$100

There are some 4 x 4 gb's and 2 x 8 GB's but they have timings up to CL8 DDR2 (which is just crap)

there is a flooded market of 2x 512mb, 2x 1gb and 2x 2gb but not of 2x 4gb memory kits. not everyone builds with the latest and greatest hardware. DDR2 will be with us for a long time due to it being cheap and effective for the mainstream and entry level markets

in general, hardware that is comparable in performace to each other you get more performance from capacity than tighter timings

LGA775 is staying for a bit, and they don't seem to be making many ddr3 boards, beyond the fact that dual channel ddr3 isn't really any better than ddr2, I don't think ddr2 is going anywhere for at least a year maybe closer to two, but we will see.

Agreed $200 for 2 4gb DDR2 sticks isn't bad, and those are not bad timings for sticks that big, but I would hate to try to clock them...

Next year all the Retail PC manufacturers will start pushing DD3 along with new OS. Sure DDR2 will still be around, just like SDRAM PC133 can be found for your own purchase simply do to over stock.

But you cant stop the progress. DDR3 prices have dropped more then double in the last 6months, and it will be even lower in the next 6months.

just did 2 quick comparisons at newegg in brand, capacity and similar performance in relation to the brand and came up with a 43-56% increase in price from DDR2 to DDR3

this is why i excluded the 'performance' market when saying it will be around with us for awhile

i agree with you but feel that the pricing still has a ways to go

That'd be neat if it was higher the 800MHz.
