Would a Q6600 be ok at 70c on load temperatures in Core Temp?

I am wondering because I hit 66C on load on CoreTemp at the speed I'm at now.

What are the volts? Thats really high, if you are using 1.4v or higher I would lower the volts.

whats your voltage? FSB speed and VTT voltage?

EDIT: shadow beat me to it, 1.5v+ would be to high for 65nm IMO... 1.45 would be ok, you just wanna avoid degradation; you could also try to lower your fsb term voltage, as that has an impact on temps a little too.

Actually, with a tjunction of 100c on the cores, your temps are a little warm, but not anywhere near the "danger zone". 65nm chips handle voltages really well, and a general rule of thumb is to keep them <1.5v if possible.

Especially with 65nm chips, degradation due to voltages is a myth IMHO, unless that voltage leads to very high temperatures. Many people have run Q6600's for a year at 1.5v or more on water without degradation

I thought that too... but i degraded my Q6600 g0 and the temps never went above 58 C in prime. 1.49-1.52 vcore... the chip no longer runs stable at stock clocks. The one thing i did have was a high FSB term voltage and i noticed that that had a big impact on temps (especially at higher FSB frequencies) It took about a year for my Q to die (10 months or so); but i also did alot of folding.

Also i think B3 cores have a lower tj max

EDIT: It might have also died due to bad power - i replaced my PSU as well bc i didnt want fry my shiny new e8500

If its 70C running Small FFT's and as long as its below 1.5v i see no real problem.

Agreed. The TJunction Max for a Q6600 is 95c, and coretemp reads the cores a bit higher than they really are. Plus, once you do hit 95c, the processor automatically throttles itself. However if you do this at more than a safe voltage that's when problems/damage can occur. Use RealTemp, it's more accurate.

70*C load is no problem, my quads all run ~70-80*C loaded, havent had an issue with them yet, and i have had them since launch (some before). Also the thermal throttleing on that chip does not start untill 95-100*C so anything under that and your golden.

I run my Q6600 at 3.6GHz at 1.44v, idles at 50c max at 70c. It is for the most part normal for high speeds and high volts on air.
