Intel Discontinues Several 45nm and 65nm Core 2 Duo Processors

Intel recently issued a list of the processors it will be phasing out in favour of the new and faster Core i7 CPUs. The list includes several 65nm, 45nm and some laptop processors:

Q9450 (2.66 GHz 1333 MT/s, quad-core, 95 watt, LGA775, Yorkfield 45nm)
E8200 (2.66 GHz 1333 MT/s, dual-core, 65 watt, LGA775, Wolfdale 45nm)
E8190 (2.66 GHz 1333 MT/s, dual-core, 65 watt, LGA775, Wolfdale 45nm)
E6850 (3.00 GHz 1333 MT/s, dual-core, 65 watt, LGA775, Conroe 65nm)
E6750 (2.66 GHz 1333 MT/s, dual-core, 65 watt, LGA775, Conroe 65nm)
E6550 (2.33 GHz 1333 MT/s, dual-core, 65 watt, LGA775, Conroe 65nm)
E6540 (2.33 GHz 1333 MT/s, dual-core, 65 watt, LGA775, Conroe 65nm)
E4600 (2.40 GHz 800 MT/s, dual-core, 65 watt, LGA775, Allendale 65nm)
T7400 (2.16 GHz 667 MT/s, mobile dual-core, 34 watt, Socket-M, Merom 65nm)
Celeron-M 530 (1.73 GHz mobile, 533 MT/s, single-core, 30 watt, Socket-M, Merom-1024 65nm)

You will still be able to get these items until 2010, but Intel is already taking measures to slowly phase them out from the market.

i would change it when it's to slow for something "important" or to slow for working in generall

phasing out, doesn't mean that they will vanish and you're lost

otherwise i would be lost with my P4 and my Athlon XP. (Work Comp. still fast enought)

No, this is a normal process. Orders of these processors are slowly going to decrease until they become unavailable in flavour of new CPUs. It's not a single day process, it takes a lot of time, and it does not mean that your CPU is old and you have to change it.

Year less would be fine by me. You can already get faster versions for cheaper, don't know why'd you buy any on those (if motherboard support isn't an issue). I never even saw any E8190 on sale and E8200 (or whole E6xx0) can be replaced with E7x00 or E8400. E4600 with E5200.

When I built my rig you just could not get hold of E8400 and E8500 so I bought a E8200 which I have @ 3.2Ghz on a 1600Mhz FSB.

Its a great chip, but even I wouldn't buy one these days, not when the E8400 is so close in terms of price.

quite a few places i know have either stopped stocking them or are on their last few units.

Didnt expect to see the Q9450 go so soon. Mind you with the Q6600 doing so well, and at its price, I suppose their is no point keeping it.

remember this isn't immediate - its by 2010 and hasn't the discontinuation of the Q6600 already been announced?

Yeah, meant just now, not before. E8400 was much more expensive when it came out. I'd propably go E8400 now as well, even though I like my E7200. Although they are quite expensive here again. Tray version dissapeared and boxed has gone up in price, it's almost as much as in February! Don't know about US, maybe it's still cheap there.
