So, how is CPU-Z gonna handle the next generation? Instructions won't fit in the box anymore. Seeing those high multipliers again is odd though

Well plenty of benchies around already, so I thought I drop the bomb ^^ well the multies are normal...that is the maximum for the 940. I am going to aim for better baseclock (bus speed) after i get my hands on a triple channel kit with lower voltage requirements.

cheers

Not really because the pricing is insane. Not saying it’s not worth it but it’s still a high budget chip.

Depends on what you are doing. If you deal with a lot of content creation, then the i7 dominates all current offerings clock for clock.

No, not really. To match the performance of the 940, stock vs stock, you have to buy a QX9770. Even then, the 940 walks away from it in encoding and content creation, and it's half the price.

Well yes I think it was worth it. I actually got the CPU a bit cheaper than it will be at retail and the P6T seems to work quite well.

No benchies because a) I did not get the CPU from Intel , b) since it is my private editorial PC.

So, can you change the FSB, or just the multiplier? I head that the i7 was going to have overclocking issues, like no OCing at all.

From what I have read you can overclock, though the 920/940 will not overclock as well as the 965 because of the unlocked multipliers. The reason people think it will not overclock well it because of the 'Turbo Mode'. They explain it all very well over at Toms Hardware...
