Good list...great they give props to the 3dfx for SLI and ATi 9700 for its massive performance jump for its time.

SLI was the brainchild of 3dFx engineers, and Nvidia utilises that same technology in consumer cards sold today.
If by same, you mean completely different with a completely different name that is based very vaguely on the same idea, then yeah I guess you can call it the same technology.

I still have a Voodoo Card running in a machine today, If memory serves its a voodoo3. Granted it a really old machine, but it still runs like a champ. I Loved the Voodoo series and was sad to see them go.

no FX 5200 in the worst category, i find that hard to believe, card was so bad the geforce3's and radeon 9000's and sometimes the 8500's outperformed it.

and the geforce 4 mx cards were abominations, at least the 420 and the 440 was and I bought that crappy 440

IMHO G80 is one of the most influential GPU, because it's 2 years old, but still can handle everything.

i agree, i thk the 8800GTX should have been in there, it was the first G80 chip and started everything we have now, and it and the ultra kept the crown for 2 years i don't know of too many previous graphic cards that have done that. then again i've only had knowledge about computer hardware since 2006

I agree - although I think they were refering more to the theory of daisy-chaining cards together for increased performance . . .

3DFX were also the first to slap more than 1, more than 2 GPUs onto the same PCB.

They failed due to their own blunders, though - but damn if they didn't stir shit up. I loved my VooDoo 3, and still have it to this day, even though it hasn't been in service in years.

Although - a little strange, although the article was a good read, I got the slight impression it was a little biased towards nVidia cards . . . perhaps that's just me, though . . .

but, strange - no mention of the X1900 series or the R500 cores. Sure, the X1800's had a slew of issues, the 1900s stormed the market . . . especially the X1900 XTX.

I think what they meant by "SLi" is just the idea or the possibility of using two graphics cards together.

i would also have included the Voodoo 3 3000 ,as it was 3DFX's 1st 2d/3d card and it was at the time blazing fast for both 2d and 3d,i remember reading a benchmark on it ,and its 2d performance was faster than anything else around.Shame mine went pop and took out my board/cpu/ram

nice article but he has missed at least 2 or 3 cards id consider notable.

i would have included

Voodoo 3 (instead of Voodoo 2)
ATI 19xx series
Nvidia 8800 gtx (instead of 8800gt)
