Will PC P&C 610 be enough to power this rig?
I gotta question for you guys, someone i know is upgrading, he already has the PC P&C 610 from his old rig, the rest of the system looks like this: E8400, P45 mobo, 2GB of RAM, HD 4870, 4HDDS, 2 optical drives 10-12 case fans, 2 cathode kits, evrything going into HAF 932 case, he will be overclocking (CPU,GPU). Do you think that 610W PSU will be enough? I personally like to have some headroom, a 100W+ cushion, so i said may be get a 750W Silencer, but what do you guys think?

10-12 case fans? Im going to say yes, even though alot of people will say no. I think it should run just fine. As a comparison im running a Q6600 + 3.4Ghz, 4GB ram, 150GB raptor, 9800GTX+, some fans, a VFD, dvd burner, all off a 450watt PSU. Mind you thats pretty much at the edge of what the 450 can handle and i dont expect the PSU to last much longer....

E8400, P35, 4Gb of RAM, HD4870, 3 HDDs, 1 Optical, and 5 fans, all running overclocked, and the 750 Silencer I have is barely taxed. I think the 610W will be fine. I was running this rig on a 580W before it got RMA'd (died because of power surge).
EDIT: Oops, sorry, it was a Tagan BZ-600, not a 580 :P |

610 is heaps mate.. If it was a shitty brand 610 then I would say yes but that thing will be fine. No need to waste money.
![]() If he was xfirin' 4870's then maybe but definitely not at the moment.

Yea, he’s getting the HAF, plenty of fan mounts: 1 230mm front, 4 120mm side, 2 120mm top, 1 120mm exhaust, 1 92 or 120mm on CPU heatsink and 1 92mm on GPU heatsink, that’s 10 already. May be he’d want to add a NB fan or the bottom exhaust so that’s why I said 10-12 Quote:

A shitty 610 might just fry his system. A good one will be fine. One other thing WTF is up with 10-12 case fans. Trust me, even with overclocking, the 4 230mm fans and a spot cool fan on the memory is more than enough.

Paulie, it looks like he's counting the HSF and GPU fans in his figures.

610 is about the mininum requirement. So if ur gonna OC then ur off with a silencer or a 750tx.

looks like folks are split on this, i will recomend that he gets a Silencer 750 (as erocker pointed out on sale now $79 AMR) just to be safe. Whether he takes my advice or not is up to him but i will try to convince him. Thanks guys for your help

nah 610 is more than enough, from what i've read about those things 610W is a very conservative rating! stick with it IMO.
