What is the problem with my PC??? Please help

Starting last night, my PC will boot and load all programs properly.The mouse works fine. If I touch any key on the keyboard, both the keyboard and mouse will freeze and stay that way no matter what. I can use the PC for hours with just the mouse as long as I don't touch the key board.

Both keyboard and mouse use the port into the MB (can't remember name) not USB.

I'm currently running XP with service packs 1,2 and I think 3. The hard ware is a MIS MB, sapphire radeon x1950, quad core 6000 pentium and 2x1 gig ram. I've scanned for virus and trojans using AVG 8 and Ad-Aware, run CCleaner and defragged hard disk. No use.

Using just the mouse, all data has been backed. I'm completely stumped so my plan is to go home tonight and reinstall the OS.

Any experts here familiar with this kind of strange problem?

try a diffirent KB or slot.

Try a different USB port for your keyboard? Also, make sure that it's set to USB 'High Speed' in your bios.
