I second the Jewelers advice from erocker. They look gold plated or something.

all you need is a connection, and I also recommend taking it to a jewler, they actually have machines that could make that completely new, and if you really want, they could probably gold plate your proc! (that really isnt a joke, gold has really good conductivity, and is very soft, much better than copper. For a hefty price, you could get a very good connection, almost not having to use thermal grease at all!)

Sorry I guess I got here too late.

It is very possible to fix the CPU if you want to keep it handy.

First off you need to straighten the bent pins using tweezers, credit card, or even the lead barrel of a mechanical pencil.

After those are straight, you just need to be sure the mobo doesn't still contain the broken pins in the socket. I just inverted my case and jiggled a bit to allow them to fall out with the socket released.

To replace the pins, I asked my girl if she had some gold wire, which she did ( she does crafts ). I cut them to a bit longer than the pins on the CPU. Dropped them into the appropriate hole. the stand just taller than the socket. then seat the CPU as usual. Keep pressure on the CPU as you latch it. Place the cooler and try it out.

I had to do this to an Opty165, known 3.0Ghz CPU. Got it to run at 2.9 stable with the two fake pins!

BTW my local jeweler wouldn't take the chance, he stated to weld the gold for a pin it would fry the CPU. I even gave him full support to try it, he stated if he did it , he would guarantee me a paperweight. Just my local experience, you may have a better jeweler.

Step one.

Take aluminum foil, roll it into a small, very small roll, as small as the pins that broke off.

Step Two

Place them in the socket holes of the motherboard where the broken pins are.

Step Three

To the best of your ability, place the cpu and try to align it with the foil in the socket.

GG. Did this with an old socket 478 Pentium 4.
i would just sell it to someone who thinks its worth saving, hes already orderd a new cpu too.
i think that if he tried to put alu in the socket it might fry or summit if he didnt align it right
NOTE i havnt done this myself this is SPECULATION

I dunno coz if you align it then it moves or summit it could just shut off how does information travel down a piece of aluminium anyway?

well aluminum is conductive so it may work but not sure how good... If i still had my old P3 or P4 i would be willing to try it. I did a pin mod on the P3 that involved cutting a pin off so if i still had it i would try it but i killed that stuff along time ago

OP- How did that happen? Did the pins get stuck in the socket?????

What processor did you get?

Maybe your motherboard needs a bios update.

Here is the latest bios updates for your motherboard:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2887

Looks like both of the new bios revisions updated the cpu support. So if you don't have the latest version I would suggest you get your hands on a older am2 cpu and update the bios to the latest version.

Then I am thinking that maybe when you broke your cpu you might have broken the cpu socket too.

The cpu could be DOA but getting a new cpu that doa is so rare these days.

Please tell me you lifted the retention clip before inserting the proc?

I did that with my 4850e in one of the rigs I built for a friend's mom, forgot to lift the clip (I'm a dumbass, I know.) and ended up bending 6 pins.

Had to straighten them back out with a xacto blade!
