Futuremark ''Life of a Benchmarker'' Video Contest Begins

Futuremark Corporation is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its 3DMark benchmark suite with a video contest for gamers and overclockers everywhere. Fans of the popular benchmarking program are invited to show the "Life of a Benchmarker" in an original video with great prizes awarded to the best entries.
"We’re launching this contest as a thank you to all our fans who have helped 3DMark become the number one PC gaming benchmark," said Dr. Jukka Mдkinen, VP and General Manager at Futuremark.

The "Life of a Benchmarker" video contest celebrates the world of benchmarking and overclocking. Contestants are asked to create a video illustrating what benchmarking means to them. For example, they could record 3DMark running on their systems, or show what happens when benchmarking is taken to the extreme.

Top prizes will be awarded to contestants who impress the judges with their originality; prizes include an HDTV, MSI Eclipse motherboards, MSI R4870 graphics cards, Enermax Revolution85+ power supplies and special 3DMark 10 Year Anniversary Collectors’ Edition bundles.

More information on the contest can be found on the Futuremark website: http://www.futuremark.com/community/.../introduction/

Sounds pretty cool. Fits needs to submit a video demonstrating how fast he goes through parts

Hahaha! This is a pretty cool Idea. Too bad I don't own a video camera. My video would be mad scientist style. I would even put up a couple Jacob's ladders in the room.

Wile E, do any of your friends have video cams? Or do you have a still camera that takes videos as well? That would ok I suppose.

I've got a friend that took two years of video production in high school. Too bad none of my friends around here are serious benchers

There's plenty of competitors. They're called games. Many even have built-in benching tools. Fraps has benching tools to be used with games that don't have their own. Not to mention the variety of other alternatives, free and commercial.

The only reason it seems like 3DMark is the only competitor is because it's so popular that people tend to overlook, or not even care about, other graphics benchmarks; which is kinda stupid to do, since benching within games will always be the most accurate way to benchmark gpus (for gaming).

I hope someone posts an old-school benching video with a pentium-mmx on a crazy TEC setup . . . I also want to see a TEC fry.

You know..everytime I see one of these guys up there doing promo videos and what not about overclocking, it just makes me chuckle.

They are such posers.

Real nerds respect geek culture. Overclocking used to be for the zainy, the brainy, and the downright 'r< turbomem' nutjobs. They knew it, everyone else knew it. You didn't mess with overclockers.

Now everyone and their brother bumps their vcore, flashes their GPU bios and voila!

Even the geeks have sold out.

Yeah, but LN2 and DICE are still reserved for us true geeks. I don't think that will ever be mainstream, so we'll always have that.

I can see the vid now, fog pouring out of my DICE pot, a couple Jacob's ladders, a pair of goggles, crazy Einstein hair, maniacal laughter, etc., etc.

true - remember the days when you had to set the switches on the mobo . . . when stock CPU coolers were thermal epoxied to the core and used 40mm fans . . .

man, those were the days

well - there's still the extreme cooling for extreme OCs . . . but let's not forget those that set up high-OCs (50% +) to run 24/7 without issues . . .

I backed mine down from 3.8 to 3.6 just so I could OC the DDR3 . . . although, I'm looking forward to attempting a 75% 24/7OC on this quad once I finish getting my HOH setup installed . . . but we'll have to see how that goes.

Anyhow, if I had a spare camera to send yer way, man, it'd be in the mail! All I can picture is Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein as he's reviving the creation
