Creative Getting Creative This CES with Zii

Known for decades as a company that specialises in digital entertainment products, Creative is up to something new. The company is working on what it calls "Stemcell Computing". It is reportedly making a processing chip or architecture called Zii. A teaser micro-site of the same has been launched. The Zii processing chip is expected to give Creative the new direction the company has been striving for, with announcements of products incorporating the Stemcell Computing technology being expected at the upcoming CES event. Not much is known about Creative's plans at this point in time. The teaser goes with the tag-line "Everything you know is about to change", so we are expecting something big, or significant at least.

Maybe they finally got a properly working x-fi driver for vista

Or it could be a mp3 player the size of a match head.

It might be possible to draft in Tom Cruise to advertise it on behalf of Creative - Mr. Cruise is a dead ringer for anything that includes the word 'stemcell'

i think he is referring to issues with some x-fi cards in vista some time ago. i think that newer drivers improved the situation.

It cant be a new sound card surely... a new sound card series wouldn't give them a new direction. However the tag-line maybe suggests it could be an innovative change to sound cards.

Same thing I thought as soon as I saw the name.

I know that biological cells can be used for computing, but this tech is a long way off. So as far as what they are referring to as stem cells I have no clue.

Well stemstells can take the form of any cell, maybe that processor/whatever is CPU+GPU or CPU+soundchip integrated or miracle chip that does everything (doubt it).

Either way, fudzilla.com said it perfectly:
"Whatever it is Creative is working on, we think they should've chosen the product name, which is course seems all too similar to Wii and the stemcell computing subtitle with a bit more care, as stemcell related stuff is a very controversial thing."

Hell yeah - even top Musicians rip each others riffs off occasinally - Such as Metalica & Kid Rock's 'cowboy'

another prime example is the recent hullabaloo with J.Satriani & UK based comercial alternative Indie rockers - Coldplay

they've probably just got something dumb like a pair of headphones with a built in MP3 player, which also works as a USB headset.

That, or its a retarded nintendo character who has the ability to regenerate limbs. seriously, wtf is with that name?

It better not be something stupid, like a replacement to EAX.

the word 'computing' suggests something new entirely... not a new soundcard. i'm sure stemcell is some name for a new CPU architecture or soemthing, similar to the unique ring-bus w/e that the x-fi's use.

x-fi:

I hope its not an mp3 player or some other gadget.
My guess is, its sound related. Maybe its X-Ram, but something that will get used.
