System Specs

Nvidia 9500 GS

I recently bought a HP pavilion Elite m9340F, 2 Quad CPU, Q6700, 2,6 GHz PC with Vista 64 bits, which include the above mentioned video card. For some reasons, when playing CoD world at War and NHL 09, the computer freezes during the game. After consulting the hepls features on each gamme, I have done all the updates on the computer including the video card, but I am still having the same problem.

My question is, is the 9500 GS video card strong enough to play these games or should I be looking for a new card.

9500 GS is a pretty low end card so I don't think it could play WAW, maybe at low settings. Have u check gpu temps? Could be overheating.

Welcome to TPU!

Like said before, the 9500GS is a pretty weak GPU for graphics and gaming. It was pretty much only designed for web surfing and watching videos in Vista Aero.

I guess my only option is to buy a more performant video card. Any suggestion?

Hell, jump on ebay then and grab a GX2 or a GTX 260 216, with that kinda cash you can get pretty much the best NV cards around. You might even be able to find yourself a 280 for under $300

The 9500 GS isn't a gaming card, its a card you'll use for watching DVDs. I doubt the crashing in games is related to the 9500s lack of performance, but if you plan on playing new games you'll need a beefier card.

I would recommend one of the following:

ATI 4850
GTX 260 216
Nvidia 9800 GTX+
ATI 4830

Edit:

In the mean time make sure your 9500 GS has the latested drivers installed from Nvidia.com

9500GT is 8600GT if 9500 is DDR3 variant than is little faster than 8600 GT if it is ddr2 variant it is a lot slower. And this GS version I have never heard of it is probably DDR2 variant and 64bit memory bus so it is definitely not for gaming if you had 9500GT DDR3 it would be capable of playing games at lower to mid resolution and details.

clicked CTRL + F. And I couldn't find 9500 GS. It's not on that list.

Yeah, when I first posted I just figured it was another low-end card that NV had released to fill in the 9X00 gaps. I wish I had checked first.
