Stalker runs like a slideshow

OK well i've recently bought STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and it runs like a slideshow. I applied the latest patch and tried it maxxed out with AA and it didn't appear to go over 5fps. I then tried it without AA and with object dynamic lighting only and it didn't seem to go over 15fps. I then put the sliders down to 3/4 of the way and still not over 20fps. I wasn't expecting great preformance from all the bad things i've heard but this is rediculous considering the spec I have. Crysis on high settings runs at 30-35fps and it looks much better than stalker. Any help is much appreciated.

resolution is 1650x1050 btw.

They did say it is a little graphic intense.

Too much?

It should be running at 40-60fps on his rig tho. My old 8800GT ran it maxed fine.

Yeah. The 8800 GT isn't a wimp at all.

Switch to 1280x1024 and see if your framerates improve. If they don't change, I would go for a reinstall.

ok I reinstalled it, applied the latest patch and it still sucks. I then set all settings to low and it didn't go above 30fps! What's going on?

Strange issue you have there.
Even my old XFX 8800GT XXX ran the game fluid with my CPU.
Well except for the odd stutter when walking from place to place as buildings load up.

Damn, my HD 3870 ran it maxed at 60+ fps, something is wrong here, and FYI the AA in Stalker doesnt work, so you might just wanna leave that off.

I'll lend it to my friend and see what framerate he gets. If he gets bad framerates then i'll do that.

If you have the latest Nvidia drivers installed maybe Ambient Occlusion is enabled in the control panel. From what I understand it should kill your performance if enabled.
