$600 build contest, get PAID
Hello, TPU. This is a build contest, in which the winner will be paypal'd $15.
I have been given $600 to build a computer, WITH a monitor, preferrably larger (19" +) This computer is mainly for media/web browsing, onboard video is not a problem. If you can fit any cooling solutions, video cards, etc.. in this money range, good. Make it as close to $600 as you can, if it goes over a lil bit (max $25) thats alright. This build is everything, monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc... (preferred keyboard Razor Lycosa, or equivelant) RULES: 1. The build must be able to be shipped to TN. 2. The build must be able to be bought and shipped below $600 on february 15(This would mean that deals have to last to this point) 3. MIRs will not count towards a final price of the product. 4. You may only post once on this thread, however you may edit your thread any amount of times you wish(although, you need to notify me if your build has updated it so I can reevaluate it.) If your post doesn't contain a build, I will ask you to delete it. If you don't, a mod will be contacted. 5. Try to make all the hardware from a single retailer, preferrably newegg or tigerdirect. Must be able to be purchased with paypal. 6. If you are selling any part of the build personally, it must be available for purchase on the 15th of february. If you need to contact me about any part of this thread, do it by PM, dont post here unless it is a build. Operating system is not required. but if you want to add, go ahead. 7. End of contest is the last day of January. last but not least, HAVE FUN, and build me a computer! (computer is a gift for a loved one) Audibles: 1. Farlex85 - If you can fit any peripherals of any type, IE speakers, feel free, anything at all so long as its under $600, use your imagination. The recipient is FEMALE, and this can be OCed, but must be 100% stable over long periods of time. 2. Diddle - make sure you denot which link is which piece of hardware. Also, you can make this a public wishlist from the egg, make it easier for me n u. 3. andrewsmc - this is perfect, this is the preferred way of doing things. there are some out of stock items, if they are out of stock by end of contest at the end of january, it will be obsolete. also, the $600 is with it SHIPPED, so watch it. 4. easy_rhino - This must include every part to make it bootable and operable INC keyboard/mouse. EDIT: you know what your doing, ill shut my mouth. 5. Aklass - Once again, this build, shipped, comes well over $700. I do like the addition of the 2180, but its not too futureproof. An amd chipset with a 7750 (barely priced higher) would be much more worth it for that price. 6. CDAWALL - amazing, never built an ITX before. Most everything is Free Shipping, good stuff. That atom is going to be slower than dogshit tho. 7. Steevo - looks pretty good, I think i could sacrifice the extra cash, get a 7750, and still be under $625. Digging the blu-ray capability, but remember that it doesn't have any cd writing capabilities. 8. JRRacingfan - you have 2 of [[SpecResearch MKS-301(PS/2) Black PS/2 Standard 3-in-1 Multimedia combo - Retail]] do I need 2? ZIP for shipping is 37040, ALT is 42223 (if other doesnt work.)

So you could skimp a bit on the LCD and get a less reliable brand and shave off 10-15 bucks. I figured I would submit this better build!! I suggest opting for the cheaper 8.99 keyboard by logitech. I own it and it is amazing. Sure it lacks bells and whistles but that is why I prefer. Plus if I spill drinks on it it is cheap to replace. If you go for the 8.99 keyboard you can get the triple core phenom and your rig will fly and cost about $580 sans shipping. Grand Total: $652.01 (Ground Freight Included) Minus a $20 mir for the RAM (I ahve the same barebones and stuff picked out for my parents new PC when they get the money, with my old Phenom of course and a ACC capable baord I can see what it will do, and selling them my 22" so I can upgrade) Why do people keep choosing the intel boards when the intel integrated video is horrible, the ATI solution has BR acceleration and can actually play a game!

There was also a pretty pink saitek mouse and keyboard set that was out of stock, so later I am going to add that when it is back in stock. Last edited by lollerskater69; Jan 6, 2009 at 03:50 AM. |

You can game on it to i guess, it should add up to somewhere near $600, if it doesn't just forget it and i can delete.

i saw some nice builds in this list so i decided to just point out that the builds featuring the AMD 7750 and 780g based mobo are best bang /buck you can find instead of basicly copy pasting builds that are very simular.

E7200 easily oc to 4GHZ
S1283 best bang for the buck cooler P5Q Pro best bang for the buck mobo OCZ SLI-Ready 2 x 2GB Heard they were only $10 evga 9800GTX+ or HD4850 either way is fine the SLI-Ready ram won't have a significant impact WD Caviar 1TB Heard they were $110 or $110 Corsair 520HX or TX550 Acer 19" V193WB Onboard sound is fine unless u do music production get a Asus Xonar Windows Vista. If u have the disk already great saves u $100 Any mouse. There's no such thing as a good mouse, just the way u get used to it. But don't take this as advice to buy a mouse that dies in 2 hours Any keyboard is fine. Look at mouse comment above.

Here you go, my build will cost $464.96 (shipping will vary depending on where it is shipped, right now i calculated shipping to my home).
CPU X2 5600+ - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ADO5600IAA5DO Board - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=A780G-M2-SE DVDRW - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...DH-20A3L06C-DO Case + PSU + Card Reader (bonus for you) - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=WN-26 HDD - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ST3200822AS-R Ram - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=KVR667D2N5-2G Keyboard + Mouse - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=967973-0403-DT CPU Cooler - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...K8-7I52D-A3-WB 19" LCD with Speakers - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=G917W1 I removed my second more expensive option. The above machine is perfectly capable of playing Blu-ray in 1080P, so later if you want to add there is one more space left in the case too. I think mine is cheap and decent.

suraswami: unfortunately you can only have 1 build at a time :P choose one, and ill review it. Also, for everyone else, if you make changes to your submittal, let me know, or it wont be reviewed!
nick89: same as suraswami. also, to set everyones mind at ease, this build will be reviewed by 10 people, 5 i know in real life, 4 others in this or other forums, and myself.

UPDATE 1-16-09
Alright, here's my submission. I would consider this a rather bang for buck system. Everything you've asked for is included, ( monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers) although, I found that dropping the Razor keyboard helped improve in other areas. System has onboard graphics under the 790GX chipset, which is why I select 4GB of ram, and system is highly upgradable in the future for dedicated graphics, quad core, aftermarket HSF, and even OCing. Although, with these specs, you probably won't need to upgrade. Also boasts HDMI, DVI, and DSUB. Also, I find Rosewill cases to be highly modable, and easy to do at that. Here you are:SAMSUNG 22X DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223F - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151171 Rosewill TU-155 II 500 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147117 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262 Hanns·G Hi-221DPB Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824254035 Foxconn A7DA-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186150 Logitech EX 110 Black USB + PS/2 Standard Cordless Desktop Keyboard & Mouse Kit - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823126174 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122 AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.1GHz Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor Model ADV60000DOBOX - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103272 __________________________________________________ ___________________________ Total: $586.93 Total with shipping to 42223 ( 37040 has over $50 in tax :[ ): $611.31 ($2.50 cheaper than prior, and also now a 22" monitor rather than 19")
