Who makes the HDD?
You can go to their site or just download UBCD and do a low level format that writes the drive back to all zeros, then throw in the XP disc let it format and write the OS.

if all you want to do is wipe it and put xp back on it then find out what chipset you have, download the mobo drivers, find what video card and network card is in there, download the drivers and format it using my guide

dude dont low level format it whatever you do, just make sure everythign you wanna keep is backed up, put in the xp disc, reboot reformat with xp install then full install

myself, i like to use a 20-40gb boot partition and then the rest of the drive for other stuff, funny story the first 40gb of my drive gets about 100mb/sec and the rest of it slows down slightly every 20gb or so, so that actually makes a good ammount of difference performance wise to keep the page file and main stuff within that barrier

but seriously.... do not low level format simply to reinstall the os omg youll kill it :P

Id like you to show some proof, as I had issues with the Vista leaving things behind causing XP not to load on the HDD. A low level format is done with every OS I write except for when the HDD is brand new, and it does nothing ill to my drives.

I prefer using the Zero-fill utility from HDD manufacturer. Nothing remains after this process.
