New LaCie FireWire and USB 2.0 External DVD±RW Drive with LightScribe Launched

Today LaCie announced its new LaCie d2 DVD±RW 22x with LightScribe and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and/or FireWire disc burners. The new products let customers backup large multimedia files on strikingly original-looking DVDs or CDs. With the LightScribe labeling tools available from LaCie on the 22x rewritable DVD drive, users can customize their content easily and quickly for professional and personal use. And it works with the three major personal computer operating systems.

The LaCie d2 DVD±RW 22x with LightScribe achieves the fastest DVD recording speed available on the market today. And users have a choice of connecting it to their computers via two blazingly fast interfaces: FireWire or USB 2.0. With LaCie’s new disc burner, users can store up to 8.5 GB of business presentations, files, music, photos or movies on individual discs, or the equivalent of more than two hours of theater-quality video on a large-capacity DVD.

"Whether you work with multimedia as a professional or as a consumer, creating DVDs and CDs that look both unique and attractive by using our LightScribe-capable disc burner is a great benefit," said Christelle Dexet, multimedia product manager for LaCie. "And our new LaCie d2 DVD±RW 22x with LightScribe and FireWire and USB 2.0 product lets customers chose which high-speed interface they want to use, a significant advantage to people with limited available ports on their computers."

The LaCie d2 DVD±RW 22x FireWire & USB unit comes bundled with Toast 9 Basic (Mac OS X 10.4 or later ) and Easy Media Creator Suite 10 with LightScribe Labeler for Windows for simple content management and labeling, while Mac users get LaCie LightScribe Labeler for Mac OS X.3.9 or later. And Linux customers can download the LaCie LightScribe Labeler for four popular Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora, SuSE and Mandriva) at no cost from www.lacie.com.

LightScribe is an innovative technology that combines specially coated DVDs and CDs, enhanced disc-burning software and a LightScribe-capable CD and DVD burner such as the new LaCie d2 DVD±RW 22x with LightScribe.

The LaCie d2 DVD±RW 22x USB unit comes bundled with the Easy Media Creator Suite 10 for Windows users.

Availability
The LaCie d2 DVD±RW 22x with LightScribe are available worldwide through the LaCie Online Store or LaCie Reseller at the suggested retail price starting at $119.99 USD for FireWire/USB version. For more product information, visit www.lacie.com.
