About to start building my i7; few questions before i but parts;
My chosen spec is;
I7 920 to O/C'd to about 3.2Ghz to 4 Ghz on a part time basis. Akasa AK-967 Asus P6t Deluxe 6 Gb DDR3 1333Mhz Corsair Xms 3 Antec 1200 Radeon 4850 1Gb - Sapphire 2x 640Gb Western Digital Cavier SE16 Dual Layer DVD writer Windows Vista 64-bit home basic My PSU will be Corsair 650w TX; My question is will the PSU ive listed be enough to power the whole lot? This is my 2nd build since an AMD Duron i built back in 97, i don't want to get it wrong as the parts are expensive, is it a good idea to build a PC using rubber gloves that some car mechanics wear to stop static damage? My bro once used an anti-static band, but he still damaged his mobo, so i have serious doubts about these. i need advice on fitting the akasa fan, im assuming it will need a backplate, will this be a pain to fit without mauling the mobo to much? It'll be used for playing Footy management games, Battlefield 2 and 3 when it comes out, diablo 3 and it will be used for encoding and converting dvd's and movies for use with my ipod. |

Well get something like a Thermalright TRUE with 1366 bracket for cooling. Ditch the 4850, scratch the 4800 series unless AA is really all that important to you and pick up a GTX260. It should be less expensive and they overclock soooo well.
You've got the right idea with the 920. Why the P6T Deluxe? Is there a reason? The only reason I ask is that it is a problem child. They had so many QA issues in the release that I wonder how much I can trust ASUS in the x58 arena. I know I have a RIIE but I got lucky with mine. You can chance it but if anything goes wrong/does not give you optimal performance then I suggest you have them replace it. Some of the issues I've been approached with are just atrocious.

I was just at CES and the discussions I had on X-58 Mobos with others indicated that these would be two top choices. I have had excellent luck with my present Commando and before that a P4C800E which is still running after 6 years. What issues have you heard about? Any other suggestions for a high end X-58 Mobo? |
