8800 gtx VS.. Everything

AM I crazy or is this still one of the best video cards out there?
Other than the fact it can break HD compliance in some setups.

I look at it then compare it to the current grade of "new" cards and I say..
Hmm.. this still looks better in most cases..
It's like a 512 nation out there and this is 768.

am I crazy?
I just gotta know..

I keep thinking about upgrading..
then I say "upgrade to what?" lol..

hell if I just sli this, it'll be even more beastly than it already is.

I think there still ok, for a low end card now. There pretty strong, and very cheap now, but I would say just spend your money and get a 9xxx series card.

The 8800gtx is starting to get pretty dated. The newer generations of cards are just so much better. It can't compete with the 4870 and gtx 260.

The ONLY upgrade you can do from a 8800GTX is either a 4870, or GTX260 or higher, any other upgrade is not worth it.

The 8800gtx is still a beast, yes. However, g92 gpu arcitecture is superior to the g80, so the 512mb 8800gts is faster than the 768mb 8800gtx.

As for the "512 nation", 512 is passing. The GTX 260 is 896MB, the GTX 280 us 1GB, and there are plenty of 1GB 4850s and 4870s

yeah... those of us who made fun of the guys buying the 8800GTX for $500 two years ago were wrong... its by far one of the longest lived cards i have ever seen. Just goes to show what happens when ATi isnt around to play.

i have one in my bath right now, soaking. Yes i'm serious.

My 8800GT is faster, OC'd on an accelero than my 8800GTX. the 768MB of ram doesnt help when the modern cards have so much more shader power.

Considering when its release its still quite good. Sits comfortably between an HD 4830 and HD 4850 for the most part (and depending on the game higher than either). For a product released in fall of 2006 thats great. I replaced mine this fall, but I sure didn't have to. I could have kept gaming quite well for another 9 months to a year with it.

8800GTX is pretty much a 9800GTX except slower clock speeds and more memory but is slightly slower.
9800GTX competes with a 4850 512 the last time I checked.

My old 8800GT still held up fairly well in todays games and so will a 8800GTX.

8800GTX is still beefcake, a legend in its time, and by no means a slouch now.

firstly, before the suggestions roll in, a 4850 is NOT an upgrade, and a 4870 hardly is, this comes from someone who owned one of each.

even the GTX260... its not twice as fast, so i mean, where does one draw the line?

i still have a watercooled 8800GTX and love it, there's still pretty much nothing it cannot play, maxxed out.

i currrently own two 8800GTX's, for reference.

adding to what i said before, while its harder to find cards as competitive in price to performance (they're about the same cost as an 8800GT) dont forget a few things.

the GTX is bigger than all the other cards that compete with it. the GTX requires two 6 pin PCI-E (the 8800GT/9xx0 series cards use one) and the GTX is a heat monster.

speed isnt hte only category, my OC'd 8800GT with passive cooling can match my 8800GTX which requires a 120mm fan to keep it cool - and it still runs hotter.

Um... It's faster than a 9800GTX+....

Seriously if you have it already, keep it. If your looking at buying a new card, get a 4850.

A 9800GTX+ < 4850.... 9800GTX doesn't even stand close.

The 8800GTX is not a 9800GTX...

I never said it was. I said it was pretty much a 9800GTX then explained the differences although I never mentioned the 9800GTX is a G92 or whatever it is.

I didn't read that right, but the 8800GTX is still way faster than a 9800GTX, and a bit faster than a 9800GTX+.

couldnt be more wrong. They are completely different chips, you might be thinking of the GTS. The 8800GTX is G80 core, while the 9800GTX is the G92, just like the 8800GTS 512, which is an underclocked 9800GTX.
