Intel to release low-cost Pentium D 805 Processor
Intel Corp. plans to release a very affordable dual-core microprocessor Intel Pentium D model 805 chip in March, 2006. It will work at lower clock-speeds and 533MHz FSB. Intel Pentium D processor 805 will run at 2.66GHz, uses 533MHz processor system bus and has 2MB cache (1MB per core). The chip is expected to cost about $200 with all taxes included, which is probably an indicator that wholesale pricing for the processor will be much less than $200 - $163 or $178, even though Intel Corp. officials declined to comment on the price-points. “Until release date we cannot provide you with exact pricing information,” Intel spokesman Radoslaw Walczyk said.

Could this be a problem for AMD since their cheapest dual core is the 3800+ and is about $100 more? That is even with their new lowered price.

Is this socket 478? I thought 775 didn't support speeds below 2.8Ghz.

Its using a slower bus so the minimum multi thing is a non-issue

Theres really no point in dual core if you only have a 2.66 GHz P4. My fried just got a new comp iwth a P4 506 (2.66 GHz) and the thing crawls. Its slower than my moms old 2500+ AXP

it is a skt775. for 1 dual core isnt compatable on 478 and 2 it would be pointless to release a core for a dead socket. i wouldnt say this thing is gonna crawl like its single core cousin. remember older dual cpu rigs dont need ghz to run fast.

I agree that just because it has a clock speed of 2.66 doesn't mean it will be slow. I doubt it will be too amazing though, personally I'd probably still prefere an AMD 3800+ for the extra $100 as the performance should be much better... still, its good news if it can push dual core prices down a little bit.

Heh, a "celeron" dual core precessor. Slap in extra cache and call it a Pentium D.

what are you talking about? 64bit has nothing to do with this really as we are not talking about a 32vs64. and also why would all prescotts be 64 if there was a arcitechure change when 64 was released? i would really like to know.

does anyone here KnowWhat 64 Bit Means?
Quote:
When talking about Intel Pentium 4 w/64 Bit EMT or Athlon 64 they are really not 64 Bit processor they actually emulate 64 bit. Itaninum is only true 64 Bit CPU for Standard IBM Compatible Systems. What real advantge you get with the new Athlon 64 or Pentium 4 is the ability to access up to 64 gig off memory which with a 32 Bit processor is not addressable possible. |

I know this an old thread but I thought I'd shed some light on it. I just built a system with this processor and it's running at 3.8 GHz very stable and fast! In fact, I actually pushed to 4.0 GHz, but the temps had me very uneasy. I would recomend this processor to anyone.
If you'd like to check out my system: http://www.techpowerup.com/gallery/288 Thanks |
