Yeah the planes do it loud!
I have only had it 3 weeks, I also tried giving it more voltage and it still does it. I dont notice it in newer games when I'm getting less than 200FPS. |

The squeals occur from a combination of PSU and video card, during 3D usage (especially during very high FPS testing).
I had a Seasonic S12 430W PSU and an 8800GT, and it squealed a little during gaming. I changed to a Corsair HX620W PSU. With the 8800GT the squealing disappeared. I changed to a HD4870. With the HX620W PSU there is squealing again during gaming. I tried out a GTX260 (192 core) with the HX620W PSU, and there was no squealing during gaming. It's possible Nvidia cards just don't squeal as much and ATI's do. It's possible certain PSU's are sensitive to the high 12V requirements of certain video cards. Personally I wouldn't worry about it. If the sound bothers you, get another video card. |

i dunno about that my gtx 260 192's screech really loud with the tx750... but only when folding/low power 3d (like intro screens to Crysis and menu screens in oblivion) during gaming they are dead silent. Ive had my cards for a while (since the 4870's came out) and theyve been folding most of the time... no issues - just alot of high-pitched whining.

Also, if you want to limit FPS, you need to enable features that will tax the video card. Increase texture quality, shader quality, turn on higher levels of AF and AA, etc...
Game to game there may be specific in-game commands you can type to cap your frame rates, but that's something you'd need to find out. Your HD4850's BIOS displaying "---" for the voltage is perfectly normal. This is just a redundancy to keep from inputting the same voltage over and over again for each clock info #. "---" just defaults to the stock 3D load voltage for your HD4850. There is absolutely no reason to increase this stock 3D load voltage unless you're trying to overclock to high levels. Doing so would just incur higher heat output, raising your 3D load temperatures and fan speed (if set to auto)... |

I actually have the exact same problem as you. At first I though it was my video card as it only happened during high fps scenes. So I RMA'ed my card and the problem is exactly the same. I'm thinking it's a PSU issue since after some googling, I found other people with the exact same problem. I posted a youtube link in the atitool forum about someone else that made a video about it. Have you tried using a different PSU with that video card? I'm thinking that could be the solution to your problem

power circuitry, it happens in PSUs aswell, usually best thing to do is to RMA back directly to the manufacturer after you get in contact with them, Sapphire i had no problems with, Asus you may encounter some trouble.
My Story few years back i bought a Sapphire R1950 Pro AGP from tigerdirect.com, the card had POST Problems after 3 days, so i requested RMA, Sapphire basically responded immediately, told them the problems and they gave me the request form etc, sent the card in to their shipping center (lexcomp or something out of Cali) well the card was shipped from there to hong Kong, they inturn shipped a new card and Low and behold this 1950 has been perfect, so im saying possibly the cards when they are at the etailers warehouses arent being treated like a newborn child

I replaced the PSU with some low price garbage BUT noise is reduced 10x times. Now I can hear it only if I try. I`m sending back my glacial PSU. This one it is not buzzing but in game voltage on momnets drop to 11.7 I dont like that very much on glacial was constant 12.11 in game in windows always 12.1.

So I was right.
my voltages stick within .5% tolerances on all lines. 12V= 12.01V (12.00V under load) 5V= 5.03V (5.00V under load) 3.3V= 3.36V (3.31V under load) |
