Overclocking my Q6600, some help please (:
Basically i get the general idea of how to overclock, but I want to do it the most stable and right way i can.
The proccessor is a Q6600 with G0 stepping and @ 2.4Ghz atm. The motherboard is a Gigabyte EP43-DS3L Can i just get some tips on exactly how I should go about it? Also do I need to update my BIOS or anything, and how would I go about that? Thankss

you both beat me too it
the basics, set multiplyer to 9X raise the FSB and the cpu voltage as required you may also have to raise the memory and northbridge voltage (pll?) as well as you over clock the cpu the RAM will overclock as well. so to be safe at the start and to make sure you ram is not crashing and not the cpu, lower the ram divider so it runns at 677 or 800 mhz and also loosen the timings to 5-5-5-15 and maybe give the ram 2.0 volts when doing a basic overclock try not to let the ram pass its defult speeds (800 mhz or 1066mhz) so set it to 800mhz for 1066 ram and 677 for 800 mhz ram) as if you do you will need to use a prgrame called (mem test) to test if the memory is stabel before you overclock the cpu (unstable ram will cause a crash just like an unstable cpu) when you overclock make sure you have decent cooling and watch you temps use real temp for the temps and stay below 50>55c is what i aim for with a MAX LOAD temp when with air cooling, also use orthos (i think its quad core) to load the cpu and set it to stress the cpu only, not the ram (use mem test to test the ram once you cant oc the cpu any further) thats the basics oh dont forget to sacrafice a virgin and a slab of beer to the pc gods before any overclocking, if you dont sometimes they will come down with wrath and fire and destroy all the things you love most (ive lost many pc's to the pc gods)

Lower the ram speed as mentioned above. Then set your fsb 300. That will put your quad at 2.7 ghz. You shouldn't have to up vcore at all for this. That will give you a small oveclock to start off with. Now read the basics of overclocking as mentioned above. Post back if you want to try this.

Ok gave it a go. Got it at 333 (3.0Ghz) stable
Not gonna bother going any higher just yet, will see how it goes firstI put the voltage at 1.375, is this alright or a bit too high or anything?

Thats average, start increasing your fsb by 25+ , and try to see if you able to get it to 400 fsb (You might need to increase your cpu voltage to 1.4 , Stay under 1.5v unless Watercooled, and under 60*C Load is good area to stay under)

The only problem I can see with this is a quad core on a motherboard with only a 4 pin CPU power connector. Not necesarilly a good overclocking board.

That seems a little high for a g0. Try lowering it a little and then stress it. |
