Are you using Vista?

1. Make sure mini 3.5 connector is plugged into the lime green on the back of motherboard.
2. Goto START, Control Panel, And click on Sound
3. Make sure Speakers is checked under the Playback Tab
4. Click on Speakers and click Properties and make sure at the bottom of the general tab where it has Device Usage, it says Use this Device(Enable)

And make sure u r not using the hdmi for sound.

If ur using soundMax make sure it is set to stereo.

you should see the option in the control panel sound windows where it might be checked.
Same place as speakers.

You know, come to think of it;if, your monitor has an headphone output you might be able to plug the speakers in there-with hdmi on.

I think you need to change the outputs in the control panel (sound) to the onboard sound chip from HDMI.
