Pioneer Announces 8x Blu-Ray Writer
Pioneer Europe today unveiled its latest Blu-ray writer, the BDR-203BK, that's capable of writing at 8x speeds on Singe and Dual Layer BR-R discs. The BDR-203BK with black bezel will be available on an OEM basis from February 2009. It will cost around €250. Full specs follow below.

I don't think I like the idea of a singed disc
![]() At the moment, I find bluray to be completely restictive as a viable backup method due to the extortionate costs of the writable media for them, the 8X discs are going to make that even worse.

Still not as fast as a decent HDD. Cheaper and faster to buy a couple 1TB drives than a BD-ROM and a stack of discs.

Although I'm not yet interested in burning Blu-Ray, you really can't go wrong with Pioneer optical devices. I can't wait until the price of media comes down.

Does it seem obvious? Electronics with new technologies are always pricier than our current generation of electronics. In other words, BluRay is a new technology that is being attempted to push the price into the consumer range. If it's too much for you, get a BluRay Reader for just over $100 if that makes you feel better

True i remember when i got my first cd-writer. i think it was 2-speed and it cost about 150pounds! I made the money back on it tho
