Assasin's creed.

Just my perspective on the game..
I can really sum it up in one sentence..lol..
very pretty and very repetitious.

The game is full of things that have massive potential..
and not many things that take advantage of that potential..
it looks great..

but there is no character development.
No new gear..
some weapons you get a long the way that really just don't stand out at all.

The same tasks over and over with even the same lines from different people..
you'll save 100 people from guards..
and all 100 of them will say like one of 3 things..
it get's old.

the swordplay is very fluid, as is the movement..
but it's also repetitious.
even with the different kills..
after the first few levels of doing it, it gets old.

there's nothing new..
no new kills you learn along the way..
barring like one counter kill.
no real sense of leveling up..

It's a game you can enjoy if you just want to relax..
look around and kill some people..
kind of like gta..
or flight simulator.

you can either start all holy hell..
or just fly around in your helicopter..
but just like gta4..
it's boring and falls very short of the mark.

I find myself trying to just "get the little things out of the way"
so I can enjoy the main quest at this point.
but all the little things are just the same little things over and over again..

collect these flag..
pickpocket this person..
kill this person..

Honesty some of the reasons people give you for needing your help are just dumb..
like the writers gave up..lol..

So in summation: It's pretty.. but boring..
fun to play if you want a nice looking, relaxing game.
That you can kill people in...lol

The views can be simply amazing in this game.
don't let me sell that short.

I give it a 7 /10.
mostly for graphics and fluid movement.

Agreed on all points. I enjoyed it immensely for the first few days. There isn't enough of a smooth transition from the mini-quests to the overall quests.

I agree on pretty much all of your points...but id give it an 8.5/10 simply because in reality their is no better assassin game...their may be better but those are in RPG's were you can play an assassin but this game is awsome imo simply because its an amazing assassin game and second because they broke boundrys. ubi wasnt afraid to publish a game that could be controversial because of its religous content...props to them. thats like opening yourself up to lawsuites...too many people are afraid these days.

silent hunter also had potential that fell short with ubi.

it's worth playing..
but It doesn't captivate me at all .
nothing like mass effect.
or something with a solid storyline.

They did very well with making the assasin an assasin..
he looks, acts, and feels the part..
they just didn't give him enough to do..
or a good enough manner in which to do it.

I can kill 50 men at any time..
no problem..
combat is to simple.
It's a very intuitive combat design with the one/two button set up..
done very well.

just to easy to never die.
I die more falling off roofs..lol..
which I must say is fun..
but I never feel the need to run, because I can always win.

running from rooftop to rooftop in such a fluid manner is very enjoyable..
they really hit the nail on the head with movement..
couldn't of done much better.
movement and scenery make this game.

I'd mostly agree except I would say GTA IV's gameplay is much deeper. It's true it can be repetative (any sandbox game can be if it isn't enjoyed properly), Assassin's Creed isn't quite a sandbox game, it's similar to another recent ubi fail (FC2) in that it trys to appear open but does very little to immerse you in the world or give you real choice. It's all done very poorly, only the graphics can suck you in, the rest feels very artificial. GTA IV has all sorts of subtlties that pull you into Liberty City, making havoc much more enjoyable. I'd give Assassin's a 5/10 and GTA IV 9/10.

As to Assassin's Creed, it was overall quite fair but like most say, it's just missing something major. Come to think of it, it shares a lot in common with Far Cry 2 (ironic how both are published by Ubisoft). Maybe this is a trend forming. We all know how EA releases stuff that is barely functioning until patched. Maybe Ubisoft's model is to make games as pretty as possible and then work on gameplay elements if there is time. Far Cry 2 and Assassin's Creed both fit that bill and it might not stop there. It's like they stretched a 10 hour story to fit a 40 hour game in both: all filler, no killer.

Simply put, it's worth playing the story once (like Far Cry) but I believe it really isn't worth doing all the side jobs or even exploring. The reward for those side quests are usually worthless (just a gang of guys or some scholars walking around).

yep, you hit the nail on the head

i played to the 6th mission, got bored. this is exactly the reason i download games, then buy them if theyr good.

except for farcry2 and warhead, i fell for the hype on those ones.

and yeah, farcry2 is just assassins creed with guns and africa instead of the holy land.

I agree..
Thats what worries me, the trend..
Every time I turn around, a new game has come out that completely lacks context.
Taking only into value graphics and physx..
That is nice and all..
But what fun is a pretty game that just sits there looking pretty?

It's like looking at your HD 3d screen saver that morphs.
looks cool and is entrancing for a while..
but after a bit you see just how basic it is at it's core..

lots of pretty, not much to do with it..
Hell I can't even go in doors in this game, or windows..
what world has no interiors? lol..

I like the fact that games are moving to look as good in CG as they do in play..
But I don't think we need to sacrifice gameplay like this.

That's a good point. It's a lot like GTA VC where there are very few interior spaces. I hope that Assassin's Creed was mostly about getting the engine/environment right and the sequels to the game will focus more on content. I hope the same is true for Far Cry 2 sequels. I mean, I understand how much it work it takes to get the fundamentals of a game working. It really doesn't leave much time for content unless you push the release date back. Publishers really hate doing that though because the longer it is in development, the more it costs.

Totally I played and fell in love with the way it looked. But the repetitive aspects of the game killed it for me. Althrough sometimes ill play just for the eagle vision parts

I agree with you, but I still loved the game. I love the climbing mechanisms, fighting style, story, the graphics, the open world etc. The side missions get very repetitive, but I still had fun, especially since the game is short. I can't wait for the second one either.

My biggest issue with these types of games is "Gaming Value".

Exemple:

If you pay a game 60$ and it takes you 6 hours to finish it, i see it as 10$ an hour which in my book equals poor value.

A game that you pay 40$ and takes 40+ to complete has excellent value (a bouck an hour). Repetitiveness can alter this figure.

If your pocketbook is not very deep, then you avoid these thing like i do.

I guess they mostly charge you for the labor they put in the story and game creation :/. Its kinda lame but I wish they'd make games like these have a longer story or at least add the side stories into the main plot rather than adding achievements for spending more time doing irrelevant side tracking quests that won't benefit you in anyway once you finish the game.

I like achievements that make you want to play the game again and again kind of like Mass Effect (play with an Asari for 75% of the game, play with a Krogan for 75% of the game, etc.). Achievements that don't encourage you to play the plot in a single player game calls for an epic fail.

OK.. I just beat the game.. and wow.. what a terrible ending..
It has to be the least ending like ending I have ever seen lol..
It doesn't even seem like an ending..
I walked around for like 30 minutes, trying to figure out what I needed to do, to get the last part of the story going..

I found all kinds of emails and the eagle eye stuff on the ground and walls, as well as in the bedroom..
Found the blinking pen on the animus..
Does it really just end like that?
or did I miss something? lol..

They just said they'll see me soon..
then they leave and im stuck in a room? lol..
Would of been nice to know what happens to your character..
I see their saving that for part 2 apparently.
but that was a pretty boring way to end a game.

no closure in anything..
what happened to the thing?
whos the big boss man?
There were no answers.. lol..

But I still say it's worth playing..
I even raise my score to a 7.5 from a 7..
just for the look and fluidity of the game.
The story even developed a little more, which made a big difference.

the free movement and non bilinear story was a nice change from the norm.
Never played a game that made movement look and feel so natural.
The scenes were so good on some parts, you could just sit there and stare at them for minutes at a time.

but if you played this game and went straight for the main quest..
you could finish it the same day you started it.
likely even within, i'd say 4 hours..
thats a big nono..
was worth buying for 30-35 bucks..
not 50.
7.5 from me.
