MoonPig's UV HDD + CD Cage
Hey fellas,
Note, this is more of a log, so updates will follow, and remember that im busy at the moment, so this may take afew weeks. Ok, this project is for a HD + CD Cage. Basically, with my desk im using mounts that i've stolen out of skip cases. But now it's time to get one with it, and make one. Things i need to get: Sheet of plastic - UV Green 4 x extra long HD mounting screws ( i have 2 of them, their good...) Reason for mod: Proper storage of HD and CD Hold 3 HD's and cool them well Prevent Vibration Where I'm up to: 1. http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/4621/1000314.jpg 2. http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/7379/1000315.jpg 3. http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/28/1000316.jpg lol, note that this is only what it will look like - it's not going to be made, badly, out of card... Thanks to: Fits and niko084 for the idea. Darknova for the HD, didn't buy it for this - but it's come in handy. Everyone who will give pointers and advice in the future. |

Thanks guys. I'm going to order the UV Acrylic on Wednesday. It comes in 480mm x 480mm, so i think i'll need two.
Then there's the long process of cutting it out, i really don't want to make any mistakes. Then, the hardest, drilling holes for HD and CD Screws Then the process of glue-ing it together. |

5mm is quite thick, as i'm sure you already know. i used 5mm for my side panel and bolted it on to the outside (it's an Antec P180 case and the side panel is notoriously thick). obviously thicker is better and less likely to warp.

just be wary that if it's too thick the screws won't be long enough to fix into the drives...but i'm sure you're aware of this. or you could countersink the screws to make them go in further which makes them flush with the panels.

what's the place you're ordering from, out of curiosity? i found www.plasticonline.co.uk from a PC mag; they sent me the wrong spec acrylic which i pointed out and they sent a replacement free of charge.
