Radeon HD 4750 Gets First Listing

With all the attention the RV790 (Radeon HD 4890) is grabbing as it heads for launch, we almost seem to forget its smaller sibling, the RV740 (Radeon HD 4750) is also in the works. What makes the special, is the fact that it is the industry's first GPU to be built on the 40 nm silicon fabrication process.

A preview of this desktop card surfaced late last month, which showed its performance to sit somewhere between those of the Radeon HD 4830, and HD 4850. With this the company plans to step up the heat against NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, and is adequately equipped to bear the brunt of a price-war, thanks to the lower manufacturing costs this card brings. German retailer Hardware Schottenland.de has added the first listing of the card, which shows its price set at 129.90 €.

Man at that price it makes it more expensive than a 4850. I sure hope its not more powerful. That would make me rather depressed.

True that. Is not more expensive, but more or less a the same price. 4850s are 130-140 € nowadays. Nevertheless it will not be able to compete with 9800GTX/GTS250 or 9800GT at that price, because those are selling for 120 € and 100€ (respectively) at the moment.

But as I always say, this is the pre-release price, which is usually higher.

EDIT: You can actually find a pair of HD4850s for 120€.

While I can't confirm it, this card can be sold for even €79, if the situation demands. Another thing is that, with this ones entry, AMD is planning to discontinue HD 4830.

130€ would be directly translated to around $130. That's (1€ = $1) what happens with almost every new card. With the time prices do go down faster in the EU until the cards get the true value (1 € = $1.35), or closer to the true value.

You can get a 4850 for $109 USD. 120€ is way to much for a "lesser" card. I say 60€.

Man this is starting to get as confusing as nvidia's side of things. No need for this card other than ATI wanting to keep things fresh in the market to keep sales boosted. 40nm? Who cares, it's the same core, it won't do much but make you debate whether you should choose it or a 4830. Or a 8800gt? Or wait was that 9800gt? Are they on the same level? Well how much more do I get going with a 4850? What about a 9600gso? Which 9600?

Get ready for some more "which video card should I do" and a lot of "get the one I have it's great".

Where can you get a HD4850 for $109?? I have never seen one lower than ~$130.

60€ is not realistic for any card. Even old lower end cards never go below 50€, not a lot lower anyway. Bear in mind that a good chunk of the end price (20-25€) goes to the retailer and distributors and those work here in the EU.

Newegg had my Asus for 109 this weekend. Now its 119 after MIR.

Edit: I just found another one for $109.

Ah. I usually don't take into account temporal deals when talking about at which price you can get a card. It's not realistic. It will take time until you find it at that price again.

I also don't take too seriously MIR for the same purpose, because you are paying the full price indeed. Sure you will take some money back later, but it's not exactly the same IMO.

EDIT: See, the actual price of the card you linked is $159, and it's because of the (most probably needed) discounts and the MIR that goes down to $109. At the end of the day the same vendor could apply the same discounts to the new $130 card and you would get it for $90...

Well I only payed 119 for mine. You have to count MIR. My point is why would I pay the same for a lesser card? They don't offer MIR on new items. A smart buyer is a rich seller.

I understand your point, but you have to try to undestand mine. Once the cards are at retail they will soon get MIR and other discounts making it cheaper.

Yeah but by the time this comes out the 4850 will be even cheaper. Again closing the gap.

If this thing doesn't have any disabled shaders then I think we've got a winner.

Weird title for a card that places between a 4830 and 4850. You'd think this was a 4840 rather than 4750.

No disabled shaders, even then the disabled components that may be present to help harvesting, will not affect the GPU's power consumption, overclocking, or TDP in any way.

It seems to me this will replace the regular ATi mid-range slot, which is $79.99 and $99.99.

Less than $100 + gddr5 sounds like a marketing slide waiting to happen.

4850 will prolly stay the course to rv870...seeing as it may be coming as early as August (According to ATi-forum). While the rv740 will likely obtain higher clocks, I doubt it will be enough to make up the 20% architecture advantage of rv770, but I very well could be wrong. It'll be close enough to make 4850 obsolete. It's stock spec is a whopping 10% advantage over the 4770...but that doesn't stop us from having a market with a 192sp 260, 216 260, 275, and 285...all separated by ~10% or less.

Hey BTA, check out post #2 over here by Bob:
http://translate.google.com/translat...hl=en&ie=UTF-8

So much of that rings of truth. I was thinking 975mhz and 775mhz with 1280sp for 2TF and 2.5TF...and maybe a 32nm 1175mhz part reaching 3TF....but the rest of what he says seems feasible, especially since Global Foundries is starting use of 32nm bulk very soon...

1.5-2TF just doesn't feel right though. A 512-bit package that is split for MCM sounds interesting and doable though (a lot like a mcm cpu). If anything, a rumor worth hearing!

Just buy a 4770 when they hit in two weeks. Uses less the power, more performance; same price.

Yea I was thinking AMD would be dumb if they continued to manufacture the 4830s. A bud of mine has one and its a pretty damn beastly card. They also overclock over 4850 speeds. I believe Ive seen a test for this new upcoming card on guru3d but I don't remember if it overclocked well.
