Can we please have a User Review Section?

Following on from a suggestion in this thread:
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=90586

I think it would be great to have a sub-forum on TPU, as a place where users can post their own reviews on hardware, rather than it being littered around in different sections.

A bit like there is a project log forum, it would be great to have a User review forum.

I have noticed it a lot lately, to list but a few:

Can't they just go into the appropriate forum? I don't see a need for a standalone forum, unless there is something I'm missing of course.

I dunno, I just thought it would be great to have them all in one place. And maybe even encourage the idea.

The ones above are just ones I could find where people had actually written the word review in the title.

Reviews are the primary thing when it comes to buying hardware, for me at least, I think if they were all in one place it would be an asset to TPU, extending the resources it offers. TPU members have done reviews on stuff which TPu itself hasnt, for example that review on the AC Acelero GTX280 has greatly helped me, as I was going to get that. Not any more!

I would love to have a subforum for it. It would just make the reviews a lot easier to find.

I concur with Alex in that TPU members' reviews have influenced me in buying decisions simply because TPU hasn't had the chance to review the item.

A subforum for this kind of stuff would be cool, and the rating system for threads would probably be more popular over there and it would be a very useful section. I agree with Alex and Danish about quite a few purchases I made here were because of TPU members and staff alike, I trust the members' suggestions here, have for years and so far I've been very content. Member Review subforum ftw!

Good call about the rating system! Maybe if it grows popular, you could order the reviews by the number of thanks they got

I don't know that I would do a review but I sure would read them when searching for info on an exact model etc. All in one place would be a nice feature.

couldn't agree more and i luv seeing review by users cause it usually consists of something that is either hard or hasn't been put up on the web and is something many people are curious about.

User review forum ftw. I notice my 4830 thread is in that list too It wasn't meant as a review, it just kinda turned out that way

Yes, it would be great. Not everything is reviewed by the staff and everyone doesn't read every sub forum there is. Posts get buried on the busy forums and product reviews don't really get old in couple weeks. People buy stuff when it's on sale or upgrade later to something an enthusiast has bought new.

Sub-forum under here
http://forums.techpowerup.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5
or here
http://forums.techpowerup.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

I already found one interesting review on that list you posted on OP. Even if you aren't buying something specific, it might be fun to read a review of something.

Made the Accelero Xtreme review just because there are only couple reviews in the whole internet and none mentioned anything about the VRM temps.

with the amount of users that TPU has, which equals to people buying more hardware which then again equals to more reviews being written, which then finally equals to more hits from search engines which may improve TPU's popularity even more.

but there has to be restrictions & guidelines in place as we want GOOD reviews from TRUSTED members. & no noob posting his review within 5mins of joining TPU.

Reviewers have to remain impartial to their own reviews despite being in favour of the 'green' or 'red' camp. - we all know you may favour X-Y-Z side more but thats not what the review is for.

as a whole - this could build a stronger community here at TPU since people will be given the chance to get more involved rather then have the staff run everything.

definitely a welcome addition to TPU.

A lot of people join tpu to post reviews. Our first i7 reviews and GTX295 reviews were posted here by people who joined with the sole intent of posting them.

I would definitely go for this.

I would love to do some reviews here. But I dont because they would just get lost in the general or even sub forums..

And I always check for a TPU review before I buy anything!

Point taken, what do you suggest then?? there has to be something in place to keep the peace otherwise people will just start openly flaming each other & most possibly theirs/each others reviews which is one scenario we want to avoid.

I think maybe a brief set of rules as a sticky could go up in the forum, like BSTG, and then the mods can enforce it. They dont have to be to the same standard as TPUs official reviews, they are User Reviews after all, but so long as its not evident that there is blatant bias or flaming, I think it would work out well.

Maybe if this does go ahead, as W1zz has recently made me a Mod, I could be a mod of the new forum, seeing as it was me who suggested it.

I really do think it would be a great addition to TPU.

A pointy stick to the eye will prevent any mischief. I think members would be mature enough to not flame each other. It doesn't happen currently and I doubt it will if it has its own section. Even if it does the mod squad will be able to deal with it.
