a little help with my PSU issue please?

Hi everyone. I have an OCZGSX700 power supply with 4 12v rails that give 18a each. Anyways after 2 years my comp started rebooting during games. I used Everest and it shows the 12v only outputting 0.5v so I think the psu is dead.
Anyways I was wondering if I killed my PSU or if it just died. I have a Core 2 Duo 1.86ghz cpu, 2 gig dual channel ram and Radeon x1950 256 card. I know its not the most powerful system anymore but it used to be sweet lol. Anyways would that setup have drawn so many amps that it killed my PSU?? I want to get a new PSU, but Im pretty tight for cash atm but I want to find out befoe I buy a new one how many watts/amps in a PSU that I need for my rig? Thanks a ton everyone!

I second this opinion. Seems like the PSU has ran its course and it is time for you to acquire a new one.

I would use a digital multimeter to test the individual rails under load, at least verify the PSU is bad.

Constant reboots can mean other things than power failing too.

I did however have a GSX700 just go on my when I removed it to flip it over, rebooted= FAIL.
My second and third one are still going strong for almost 2 years now.

Agreed. PSU's die. Time and heat eventually kill all electronics.

honestly if the 12V rail was showing 0.5V you wouldnt be in windows, I really urge you to test it versus using software to diagnose a PSU.

heh I would love to test it but I dont have a mulimeter. My temps are good, and the ram works fine in another computer and this issue is happening even if I switch out the vidcard.

Just to make sure, another 500+ watt PSU with 18a on the 12v would be fine for this rig?

Yeah anything that gives you at least 45amps combined is always good to handle almost anything, and a PSU like that (4x18) usually gives you at least 60amps combined, so yeah that's good.

Well at a discount store they are like $10 to get one versus 80-100 for the PSU, your choice, but I wouldnt take restarts and an obviously wrong voltage reading as a fact the PSU is bad.

hmm, think the MB/cpu went bad or something? this mainly is happening during games. More specifically in games made after around 2001 or so. If I play something OLD 2d graphics like gabriel Knight 1 or old Kings Quest games its usually ok. If I play hitman 3 or EQ2, eve online, X3 ect it will reboot. but it started getting worse after a while even doing it on the desktop and a few times it wouldnt even boot....it gave a System Disk Error. At first I thought my hard drive failed. But its actually fine. this is even happening after a couple formats.

are your drivers and direct X up to date? Could just be a simple thing, not necessarily a failure at all.
