dude, my comp is in a warp bubble

Super strange problem. My computer seems to be phasing in and out of normal time. Every few seconds the time on my computer slows down. The clock second hand slows down. Even 3dmark03 and 05 will just slow down, even though the framerate remains high. In fact, when it slows down, the framerate doubles. Its like for a few seconds it will run at half-time. After an hour or so, my clock is off by like 10 minutes. It's driving me mad.

What do you think it is? Bios battery? I've been having problems with my video card. Could it be related?

LOL this is the funniest think ive heard... lol.. maybe its just the fact that I'm tired...

I'd check your battery with a dmm. If youre having problems with video card, try for new drivers... if that doesnt work, go back to old drivers..

and a last resort is to reinstall windows, if its only messing with the windows clock..

I don't see how a video card could effect the internal clock of your computer, but this is a strange situation.

maybe some temperature based throttling? or maybe your board has some auto oc mechanism which changes the clock speed on the fly?

i doubt reinstalling would help him much.
sounds like a motherboard battery issue to me.
if this kind of thing happened to me, i would try replacing the mobo battery first of all.
quick and cheap fix.
then if that didnt work, i would start getting into the more serious troubleshooting...

hrmm, i'd guess the chip on the mobo timing has gone sitzo, battery shouldn't affect it...

also, as for the double framerates, i'm guessing its because its calculating the frames over 2 seconds instead of one, but the computer thinks its one as the clock is running slow! (i'd say theres nothing wrong with the video card!)

u should get a fast video card and overclock it hten brag of ur framerates being double anyone elses in the world :P

hahah uber-timewarping-2x framerate-super computers! :-D

does it do the double framerates? or does it just say its double?

i agree with changing the battery.. wouldnt hurt...

*searches for almost dead motherboard battery

******i just thought... if its in windows, windows keeps track of the time when its turned on. shutting down would be the only way that the bios battery would throw the clock off... hrm

I think that this is system related. Your computer probably became a target of some very funny virus. I would try to make some different bootable OS(floppy with DOS is enough) a watch the time by making some easy app that displays some output each second.
Bios battery has no effect on time while the computer is ON.
Good luck

could just look in the bios, see if time is normal there...

Heh, that would be much easier than a boot disk and I'm sure would be just as effective at testing it.

Yeah I agree. I admit that my solution was a bit redundant complication

time-warp computer update....

First I booted up my computer and the POST said it "check sum error" and reset the bios to factory default. I had the option to either enter setup or continue. Choosing to continue, windows was unable to load some basic system file. I can't recall clearly which one it was, but it might have been config.sys, or system.something. Well, I thought..damn, let's reinstall windows. Couldn't do that because the BIOS default boot order is floppy (which i dont have), HD0, and then CD-rom...but since everytime I reboot I get a fresh bios, I can't change the boot order.

Well, before I decided to go get a floppy drive, it stopped POSTing all together. So I opened her up, made sure everything was good and snug, pulled out the BIOS battery and polished it up, shot some dust spray in the socket, and replaced it.

Posted, but same checksum error. So then I went to go get a bios battery, like was suggested. Got home, popped that little guy in...CHECKSUM ERROR. Now it gets funny. I smack my head. Take a deep breath and count to 10. Turn it on again, and windows boots. Yay!....NOT!!!

So the time is still screwy. I run 3dmark 03, it runs crappily for a minute or so, then crashes... I get one of those bone-jarring, flatline solid PC speaker BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! I Restart

Check sum error. I restart.

Nothing..no post. restart..nothing...restart...nothing...restart..no thing. I pronounce the motherboard dead.

I howl like a dog.

Cry.

Give up.

Order a brand new motherboard from the egg. I'll eat rice for a month or something.

If that doesn't solve the problem. I think I will explode.
