Should I upgrade to a 4890 or 275?
I know there have been a lot of topics about this but let me explain my situation:
Currently I have a Diamond (ugh) 512MB 4870. On Pixmaina I can get a 4890 for £160 http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/2719...html?srcid=369 Or I can get a 275 for around £200-£220. In brief, which should I get? |

That's an amazing price for a 4890 in the UK, considering both are so similar in performance i'd have to say the 4890 is the only option with £60 difference in price.

I have to Agree that with 60pounds difference in price you should go with the 4890.
If it was 20 or so i would vote the 275.

Personally I love the 4890, I don't know what the performance comparison is but I bet its close which may not warrant the upgrade. If you do upgrade go with the ASUS so you can change the voltage without re-flashing.
I can max out the default upper limits on the setting and still run stable at 1.375v 1GHz core 1.2GHz mem |

This is a no-brainer, get the 4890, even if they were the same price I'd get the 4890

Only one thing to say: HD4890. Overclock that beast to 1000MHz and you got a card that eats people alive.

As you have a HD4870, IMO you would be wasting money upgrading now.

it's an OK card. It's only a 512mb like mine so it slacks off in the AA and AF games. The 4890's have a 1gb so he will see an improvement.

If your current card is giving you decent, playable frame rates, don't bother with either. If you must spend the money - get the best deal at the moment (the HD 4890). Just like the GTX 260/HD 4870 debate before them, there's almost no difference between the two performance wise.

There is probably 10 or 15% difference in performance between 4870 and 4890. I wouldn't bother spending that cash unless you are guarantee to get a good price for your 4870 if you sell it.

Between 4870 1Gb vs. 4890 1Gb... he has the 512mb. At 1920+ w/AA, the difference can be massive.

If you insist on upgrading, definitely go 4890 at that price. Even at the same price the 4890 performs on par or better in more games than the 275, let alone when overclocked.

Lovin' my Asus 4890
Hello British friends...
Buy the 4890, great overclocker. Maxes out all settings in Farcry2 and Crysis. And yes, 8AA. Mine is overclocked @ 1Ghz core and 1150 (4600) Memory. Vcore set to 1.375. Can't achieve over 1150 on the memory. I guess some cards may have received slightly faster memory chips. Different date code, lot, who knows. |
