Scythe Announces Zipang 2 CPU Cooler

Japanese PC cooling specialist Scythe has a new CPU cooler up its shelves: Zipang 2. The cooler-design comes across as an evolution of that of Scythe Kabuto, and consists of a base that doubles up as a heatsink. From here, arise six 6 mm copper heatpipes, that convey heat to six blocks of aluminum fins. It measures 145x149x106 mm, and weighs 715 g (around 1.57 lbs). The 140 mm fan spins at around 1000 rpm, and pushes 51.43 CFM of air, with a noise output of 22.74 dBA. The cooler supports all current sockets from Intel and AMD, including Intel LGA-1366, and AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3. Its pricing and availability are yet to be disclosed.

I wants. Now.
Would that passive block heat sink actually do anything, and what are those flaps on the block for?

Also this may reduce the current price on the current Zipang. Waiting pays off!

Pretty awesome looking. I like the "heatsink per heatpipe" concept. My Scythe Mugen2 Rocks! I might have to try this in my HTPC.

Nice to see ppl putting fins on the "base" block again - I was beginning to wonder how long it would take for those to come back...

This information is INACURATE.
The Zipang 2 was released in Japan, ONLY.
Will be released in the EU and USA in the next 3-4 months.

Would be nice if some people did their job accurate and not spread false rumors around ( not refering to you bt ).

When I say "Scythe Annouces", it's about the Company coming up with something new, irrespective of where. No inaccuracy.

It is innacurate as long as the where it is available is not stated, not properly anyways.
The way this news posting was released from the people that obviously send it to you leaves everyone to believe that the product is or will be soon available worldwide and that is not the case.

We are both right in this case but more details should exist to avoid confussion.

It is not innacurate since it has little to do with availablity, and more about the company coming up with a new cooler.

Which is where you read the text that says "availability is not known", and not assume/imagine things.

Back to topic.

I think that the fins would be better off connected to each other, as one whole unit of fins, so the heat can spread thru them all, because the two center heatpipes do the most work, and the heat is trapped in the fins of those two pipes--while other fins remain somewhat cool.... even though the cooler is more than enough too cool hot cpus, it still would make more sense to have the fins all one piece....

btw, i see that they are connected by tiny bridges to make them one piece, but you guys knwo what i mean.....
