Memory is so cheap why not go for the 8gb max?

What kind of cooler will you use? Xigmatek 1283's (several kits at newegg) are reasonably priced and perform almost as well as a TRUE-120.

A nice bit of hardware going in there, remember though fitting a longer card in there will only allow you to use one hard drive. At least according to this review.

First of all, there isn't a real big reason for more than 4 Gigs of memory, I'm fairly sure since he's using it as a lanbox there isn't going to be anything real serious that takes more than 4 gigs of ram.

Also considering it being a lanbox, I'm relatively sure that a 1283 or any variant such will not fit into the case. Yes I know it's possible, I've seen people make cuts inside a lanbox of some sort to fit these coolers, but the typical user won't usually take a pair of tin snips and slice out a bit. Judging by the review, the power supply sits directly above the cpu socket, so nothing can be cut out in this particular case to make a tall cooler fit.

I run a lot of simultaneous apps and recently started using Virtual box so more mems means less page file access and a smaller page file (if you set it manually).

What is a lanbox normally used for? I assumed gaming at lan parties?

You're right about the S1283 - I just love those coolers so I shill for them whenever i get the chance. There aren't a lot of good low profile coolers unfortunately - it's all about surface area and you just can't get a lot of it on a small h/s.

Although this looks interesting and might fit - can't tell. But haven't seen any reviews.

If he's using a 32-bit operating system, anything over 4 gigs is wasted.

Using a 32 bit operating system with modern gpu's is silly. As 1 gig of memory is already going to be used with the video card.

I didn't look until later. Then I saw it came out in 2007 so I figured there had to be a lot of info around. But the thing is, it doesn't help him if it doesn't fit and you can't really tell - well, not easily. You'd have to be doin' some 'rithmatiks.

Even then, say your vid card is taking 1 gig of available memory, and your operating system can use maybe 3.2? so 2.2 of your 4 gig kit will actually be used? Seems silly even looking at it like that. Even in DX10 and onward.
