2x 4770 or 1x4890?
That it, basically
I'm not aiming to make a high-end machine, just one that will run games/hd movies/some graphical software.

I think I would go for the single HD4890 1GB. I don't believe any HD4770s come in 1GB models yet, so the extra memory would help you in the long run once games and resolutions start to hit the 512MB barrier.
Also, you leave yourself open for a second HD4890 later on down the road.

1GB 4980 - far better specification and you'll be able to get a 2nd one at a later date when the prices have dropped.

Looking at your specs, you'll need to get a better PSU if you do end up purchasing a 4890 (or even 2 4770s).
Corsair HX520W would be the very minimum I'd look at.

I would have to say the 2x4770's.... It depends on what games you are playing and at what resolution. Crossfired 4770's beat the 4890 in just about every game by a handful except for crysis at high resolutions (because of the memory size). Overclocked vs stock, the 4770's how ~10% increase. Less heat and less power usage... Sorry can't go wrong.
EDIT: Here is the link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...fire,2288.html

Go for the single 4890. Less waste heat, less complications thrown up from crossfire, etc.

the 4890 in your case the P5B deluxe only supports crossfire 16x/4x which will not give you the gains that you would get on 16x/16x or even 8x/8x. this means that you will get better performance out of the 4890.

Unless the price difference is drastic for similar performance, always go w/ the one card solution.

yeah I'm actually thinking about going with a 4890 instead of the 2 4850s

There's just too many variables for consistent performance w/ 2 cards (some games don't like it, oc'ing, drivers, ect). Sometimes it can be advantageous, but usually I think it's just better to go w/ 1 high end. Then if you want add another when they get cheaper.

If your MB can Xfire and the games you like to play benefit from it then the HD4770 seems like a good choice. However if all the HD4770 in Xfire > HD4890 talk is bogus then you are better off getting a HD4890.

A LOT of games are sporting Crossfire these days. Go with the 4850 X2!

I'm going to buy a whole new machine, i ain't using any of the old parts
I've already decided on a mobo, ram, psu, case, cpu... just needed some advice with the graphics card Thanks for all the responses The Sapphire Vapor-X 4890 will most likely be my choice, if ASUS doesn't introduce a better cooled version
