Corsair HX850W Pops Up

Following a recent exposé of the modular HX750W, another PSU from Corsair caught us by surprise: the HX850W. This one comes near-identical to the HX750W, in terms of its built, and the cable connectivity on offer, except for that it offers a higher DC output at 850W continuous. Its standard features include compliance with ATX12V v2.3 and EPS12V 2.91 standards, double forward switching circuitry that offers stellar efficiency of up to 90%, 105 °C industrial-grade capacitors, and flat-modular cables. This model also fills that little gap that existed between the HX750W and HX1000W, by offering nearly the same features as its cousin from the TX series (TX850W), with the advantage of modularity. TechConnect Magazine also disclosed its price to be £140 (around US $210) in the UK.

Oh nice. I was thinking they should have released a HX850 instead of a 750 when I saw that last post on May 2nd. Makes more sense putting a unit somewhere higher up between the HX620 and a HX1000 at 850 instead of lower at 750.

Price sucks. In fact, their modular lineup has a terrible price-performance ratio. I'd rather have a Xigmatek or Thermaltake modular for hella cheaper. It's all Channel Well anyway...

it's all about quality. Xigmatek is manufactured by Channel Well but uses much lesser quality components so it's sold cheaper. Thermaltake is manufactured by Channel Well but uses little lesser quality components but sells much higher, Corsair has excellent quality and price to performance ratio you can run a e8400 and 8800GT on a 450VX cost you a whole $44 USD after rebate.

BALLS! This would have been a perfect fit for my new system, but I just bought the HX1000... oh well... can't go wrong with the extra power and I saved $60 on the 1000 anyways.

I personally think this was a great addition to the HX lineup.. I have the HX1000W and I love it.. but as others have mention before me, it would have been nice to get this baby and save some cash. But its beater to have more power than not enough. Cheers CORSAIR

Just curious... where do you guys get this information? Is this just common knowledge, or is there some database where you can find which OEM produces every PSU for the big brand names? I've always used either Corsair or PC Power & Cooling (which I understand are Seasonic units) due to their reputation.

Either by looking at the UL number on the unit's sticker, or by reading reviews where the unit is dissected. (Usually Jonny Guru. lol)

And BunbleBee is correct, while the same OEM makes the Xigmas and TKs, they are still only manufactured to the rebranding company's specs. Corsair's demands are much more rigorous than the other 2, therefore, are generally better units.

As an example, a 750w Corsair might be equivalent to a 850W Thermaltake, or something along those lines. (Not sure if that's the actual case here, just using it as an example to make the point)

All they need now is a 1200w HX unit, and the lineup should be perfect. I always felt their modular lineup was lacking. If they release a 1200W model, it's mine. lol. (Or maybe a 1240W model? Just bolt 2 HX620's together.

no Seasonic stopped manufacturing for Corsair, CWT took over for the 1000HX.

Very true if only the HX1200W was available by the time i bought my HX1000W I'll definitely go with the 1.2k watts. Still no regret my HX1000W does the job for me, been using this for months and was pretty stable. Can't wait for some HX1200W goodness from Corsair
