Mass Effect crashing on W7

Title says it all really.. Mass Effect crashes on Windows 7. Heres what I've done so far;

Installed the game manually (not using the auto installer, individually extracting the archives)
Copied the disk to HDD
Patched the game to 1.01
Tried all compatibility modes from XP SP2 to Vista SP2
Set to run the game with admin rights
Using latest W7 catalyst drivers

To be a bit more specific about the problem, I was getting install errors when using the auto installer.. turns out its a common problem I was never getting before, no big deal, installed it manually. The game now launches, however at the first screen where you get the message to press any key, I do that and just as Earth is about to vanish from the camera angle, bam, game crashes. Have to ctrl+alt+del out and end the process.

Ideas anyone?

Have you tried running the installer in Admin? And/or compat?

Yeah but I mean the actual installer not the game exe.

It could just be the fact it hasnt installed properly.

I have indeed ran the installer with admin rights and varios compats, wasn't having none of it. DLing Bring Down The Sky atm, some of what I read from people say the game runs fine after installing it

Woo a new problem. :\ I've just landed on Therum, and theres a crapload of missing textures. Lava textures mostly. Anyone know of a fix for this? I've tried;

Re-installing the game, testing, then patching after finding the textures still missing
Tried Cats 8.12 and 9.4
Deleted the UPK file in the cookedpc folder as suggested on the Mass Effect forums...

Anything else I can try? Its impossible navigating Therum with the missing textues

I had that problem too. It's when you're in the buggy thing too right? I couldn't find a fix, but you're not in that area for a long time anyway.

Yea. I fixed it now.. had to uninstall the game again, backup my save, delete the bioware folder, reinstall it all minus the patch, restore the save, and all was well. Kinda annoyed atm, enemies aren't dropping any decent weapons
