desktop clutter question

ive heard that having a cluttered desktop can slow down a computer. im confused as to what it slows down, although i can roughly figure out thats its the harddrive or ram+cpu or both.

if a cluttered desktop does slow a computer down then heres my desktop, is it bad?

Nonsense. They're just icons. They probably take up like 32kb memory combined.

Yeah, it takes a little bit more work to render the desktop with lots of icons but it is a very miniscule difference--not even note worthy unles you're running a 486 processor with 1 MiB video memory.

It may take a few seconds extra to render the desktop and all the icons when you first boot up, but nothing drastic.
