AMD Triples the Performance of ATI Embedded Graphics Chips, Launches Radeon E4690
AMD announced the ATI Radeon E4690 graphics processor unit (GPU) designed to enable a whole level of new reality for embedded graphics applications with more than triple the 3D graphics performance of prior AMD embedded products. Arcade system manufacturers will appreciate the long term support and lower cost of placing the GPU chip directly on the motherboard instead of a separate add-in graphics card. This product will enable digital signage manufacturers to decode and play multiple high-definition videos in hardware, offloading all the decoding from the CPU. Casino system manufacturers will be amazed by triple the graphics performance to help attract players while increasing overall entertainment value with incredibly realistic 3D graphics, plus two-monitor support.

“The ATI Radeon E4690 sets a new bar for embedded graphics performance,” said Richard Jaenicke, director of embedded graphics at AMD. “Blazingly fast graphics and HD video capabilities enhance the appeal of applications − such as arcade, casino, digital signage and more. With the industry’s only embedded graphics chip that offers DirectX 10.1 and UVD 2.0 support, the ATI Radeon E4690 enables competitive advantages for AMD’s embedded customers.” “The ATI Radeon E4690 is the perfect solution for the digital signage market,” said Dwight Looi, product manager at iBASE Technology, Inc. “The ATI Radeon E4690 combines phenomenal graphics performance, full hardware HD video decode acceleration and 512 MB of very fast GDDR3 memory into a compact 35 mm package, which enables us to offer a high-end digital signage solution in a previously impossible, booked-sized system.” “With the on-chip memory and responsive technical support from AMD, we were able to bring our Condor 200 product, featuring ATI Radeon E4690, to market in just six weeks from the time we received the design documents,” said Selwyn Henriques, president of Tech Source, Inc. “Based on the product specifications, TechSource expects the resulting product to significantly outperform existing products in the industry.” Source: AMD |

not a fan of the name. too similar to intels CPU naming.
I guess it wont matter much, being a non-retail item.

I've been using my onboard HD 3300 video for the past few days. It's actually very good, so these should be even better!

So your saying these won't be coming on mobos for consumers, but is really just for other things?

This has built in memory, you arent going to buy a mobo that costs $100 more to have this IGP included.

its a stripped down RV730 core so its probably not faster than a HD3870 since a HD4670 isn't and it strangely has no shader model 4.1 support

damn thats a lot of performance considering how small it is. Actually this is a great idea considering how flexible it is. It means that all the OEMs have to do is provide a power supply system (phases), and gives them loads of options. Nice way to cut costs though, you theoretically could have two of these on the motherboard and have them in CF (directly linked to NB without need for PCI-E slots).
This thing wont run that cool though so i dont see it being intergrated into consumer-level motherboards (maybe). Or maybe some creative person will turn it into a F@H farm .

I want to see 2 or 4 of these things on one PCEe x16 board. Quad fire, low power, with passive cooling. Silent. Fast. Maybe a little more expensive than a regular GPU setup... but I'm sure there are many situations people could use one... I'm one of those buyers; would pay more for lower power requirements and for silent.

I find this cool aswell, kind of remembers me Console GPUs with all that embedded RAM and stuff. I wonder if something like that would pay off for a Notebook? |

its not a tolerance thing, its an english-only forum. there is no point posting if no one understands you - and the guy CAN speak english (see his previous posts)

I wonder what the power consumption is and what cooling it needs. Would it do well with a 330 atom for low end gaming if they put it on the intel boards? Last edited by DaedalusHelios; Jun 1, 2009 at 10:24 AM. |

Considering its physical size, it would probably be doable passively. these chips would be die shrunk older designs, and probably rather expensive.
