System Specs

What should I upgrade?

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600
RAM: 4 GB of DDR2-SDRAM PC2-6400 (but Vista only uses 3GB)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
PSU: 550w Antec PSU
VideoCard: GeForce 8800GT VideoCard

What should I upgrade? My buddy says my computer is still a pretty good machine I just need to update the Videocard and PSU. Opinions?

I'd upgrade the CPU and GPU, but what motherboard do you have exactly(chipset, model no. etc.)? That's a huge deciding factor in both of those.

I would invest in some better cooling and clock the piss out of what you have, if the 550W PSU is up to the task.

The parts you have will still play anything on the market. Why throw a bunch of needless money away?

Possibly aftermarket cooling and / or a new graphics lump. The GT is aging a bit now but the Q6600 should tide you over well until i5.

Suggestions GPU wise would be the 4850 / 4870 / 4890, or if nvidia then the 260 or above.

Couldn't agree more.

Also get a good CPU cooler and let that Q6600 shine.
