1.4 volts is probably not enough for 3.6, you will need 1.45-1.5 to stabilize. It took 1.5 for my PII 940 to run 3.6ghz.

Here let me recommend a good game for ya. You might want to give this a try before you go play L4D.

That is not necessary. What is trying to say is that just because the core fails while overclocking, that does NOT mean it is a faulty core. If it works fine at stock speeds, the chip is doing it's job. Overclocking is not guaranteed, it is luck of the draw.

Yes. And when I get unlucky chip, I send unlucky chip back and get happy chip!!!

If the chip is fine @ stock is that a valid reason for an exchange? Unless you're returning it then purchasing another one. o.o

I don't think he's a bad mod... he comes off as a little obnoxious sometimes but he's to the point and does his job the way it's supposed to be done.

Whether he's a bad mod in your opinion or not, this isn't the place to complain about him (or shoot childish insults at him). There is a Comments & Feedback Forum right here. Feel free to make a thread about him if you think he's a bad moderator and the admins or other moderators haven't noticed.

EDIT: OPPS i was postign tho the original post i then read you tried that already erm it could be the nb multi or the htt link?
other than that a bad core

Heres what I got so far.

A. I overclocked the bus to 230 which brings the CPU up to 3.2. Could this error be from a lack of power? Should I up the voltage?

B. Its not the temperature. I never break 39c after hours at 100%.

Any suggestions?

<< I just noticed this is my 2,720th post.
My Biostar board absolutely hates any NB freq above 2000. So when I OC even without raising HTT I have to lower the NB freq to 1800 and raise the cpu multi. But my CPU I know will hit 4 Ghz (cdawall's cpu and he has proved it). So its my board that is behaving bad and I have reported this issue to Biostar and hope they are working on it. The cpu can work at 3.8Ghz @ 1.44v stable if I drop the NB freq to 1800. I have upped the NB voltage to more than 1.3v and still the same issue.

So try the multi OC with NB freq less than 2000. You should be good.

Well once I replace the CPU Ill try this if I still have the same problem. The thing is Shadow had the same board as me and his 720 hit 3.6 without an issue.

Have you tried pulling two sticks of ram out? The MSI board I was using for a while didn't like my Patriot ram at all. Also for stock are you setting everything to auto or are you setting it to the stock settings?

I guess its RMA time. Why not get the 955 instead (if budget allows)?

Real Sorry to here that

Yeah, if the core will not work at stock, it is time for an RMA. Go think for 5 year warranties.

It has been my personal experience that you should not OC a CPU as soon as you buy it. I always give my CPU's a week of normal operation at stock before I go monkeying with stuff.

P.S. The 720 is a Black Edition CPU. You do not need to change the FSB to up the clock. You can simply change the multiplier on the chip. This would allow you to OC the CPU independently of the RAM.
