Is this normal?

My system runs considerably warmer when in the BIOS and DOS then when it is in Windows. It seems sort of weird and Ive never understood why. Also note that I do not use programs to control my fan speeds so that is not the reason.

Well what is warm ? Need more info . It shouldn't run any warmer than when in windows if you see a 10* difference then some thing is going on .

Chances are it's just the reading being more accurate in in the bios. Some times it's how it is.

idle states (C1 etc) do not work in the bios. so effectively everything is running at 100%, but doing nothing (which is why the temps are high, but not maxed out)

Oh sorry so that even explains why the video card probably acts as it does as well, as it probably cannot revert to the lower voltage and 2d clocks.

Its a mid tower case. I didn't feel like buying a new one so I tried to save money by painting it black. But I could put a 120mm fan on the side panel

most of that stuff is software driven, so if theres no OS, theres no idle.

its more about your fingers getting in the fan blades. 12V wont do crap, unless you stick it on your tongue.

It would probably be easier to take a 9v battery to figure out which pins to use. It would atleast spin a bit

EDIT well i think i found the fan im going to use. its an old one but even off a 9v its a jet engine
