ATI X1800 GTO to X1800 XL Mod Possible

HKEPC has posted an article which shows how to mod the Radeon X1800 GTO video card into a Radeon X1800 XL. The modded card is HIS Radeon X1800GTO IceQ3 default working with 12 pipes. After the mod ATITool shows 16 fully working pipelines! Here's the link, where you can see some photos and the modified bios itself.

With proper ram cooling you could mod (flash) to XT.

The mem is 2.0ns though. You aren't going to get a whole lot of speed out of it. Still, if you nab one of the ones with a big rebate, you could get 16 pipes of x1800 glory for under 200 dollars, courtesy of newegg.

Aye, that's what I hear, but it's unconfirmed. If they *do* start locking them differently, we'll find out pretty soon.

ocworkbench just tried to flash their gto and failed and w1zzard believes it to have been a publicity stunt
